HAF X SIDE WINDOW MOD - Project: Red Devil side window..

First modding project, the HAF X Side Windows I called the project Red Devil. with this mod you will be able to look at the components you have install on this wonderful case this is one of the reasons the people hesitate to get the case but you can do this mod really cheap and easy in regards the fan you have install on the side windows you can install it at the top of the case due to is the same size in that way you would keep your airflow.

If you are planning to WC on this case you have to make this mod, check the pictures and let me know your comments and suggestions..

Hope this help to all of you..

Materials:

- SAFETY GLASSES

- 20x32x0.093 OPTIC acrylic sheet $12.99 you may also get the 18x24x0.093 but I didn’t want to take the chance to get short on the acrylic and its just $3 differences, I also prepare a drawing for you with the shape and dimension that I used on the acrylic..

http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1v/R-202038049/h_d2/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053

- Painters' Tape

- Market

- U Channel if you want..

http://www.mcmaster.com/#catalog/117/3739/=aufd2q

item 9279K11 $0.75 x ft I bought 6 feet I’ll be using less but I'm planning on more mods.

- Dremel reinforce blade or jigsaw.

1- Removing the current piece of acrylic is your first step you have to remove the plastic pushing clips or "whatever you want to call them" you will use them on the new side windows, Turn side panel upside down (inward side facing you), tape up the back of the side panel like shown on the picture and draw the window lines with the market
I measured like 0.5 cm margin around the current cutout, pretty much you only need to cut the fan grill there is no need to cut more. I used a dremel to cut it you can also use a jigsaw, this is a pretty easy cut just hold firm the dremel and let the tool do the work..

2- After removing the fan grill use the dremel or other tool to eliminate the internal sharp edges

3.- Place the acrylic inside the panel and trace the lines, you can cut the acrylic with a dremel or jigsaw but I would recommend you take this drawing "HAF X internal side windows dims" with you when you are buying the acrylic at any hardware store because they typically have better tools to cut the sheet.

4.- once you are done with the acrylic install small doble side tape and you are good to make the holes with the drill to install the pushing clips.

hope those steps works for you.

REMEMBER TO WEAR SAFETY GLASSES ALL THE TIME WHEN YOU ARE USING ROTARY TOOLS.

You could probably use a black paint pen to cover up the silver showing on the edges, but great guide and great job non the less. Cheers + rep

Looks nice but i'd imagine your gpu temps will increase...mine drop 10 degrees with the side fan on.

Well actually i switched from a thermaltake frio CPU cooler to Water cooling and im getting really good temp on prime95 full load "torture test" my max temp is 65C, but yes you are right without the fan on the side you increase the temp, i wont recommend this mod for Air cooling CPU.
