HD 4870 vs GTX 460 768mb

Now I know this is a benchmark test, but the FPS difference is unreal! I had no idea a GTX 460 outperfomed an HD 4870 by this amount.

I bought this card as a holdover until I can get my RMA money back and get an HD 6850, but now I'm having second thoughts.

This is with the GTX 460 at stock vs my HD 4870 at max OC. With 3dmark 06.

This thought i would post this in case someone else is on a 48xx series card and maybe considering upgrade.

I myself switched from a 460 768MB to a 4870X2 2GB that I got for $155 with an AC Xtreme cooler.

Scores +5500 higher on the GPU score and the 1GB memory is much nicer compared to the 768MB.

I've always found myself running out of video memory and ended up throttling in games with high textures and anti-aliasing even on 1440x900 and the 4870X2 does give me this issue as much.

GTX460 was at 900/4000
4870X2 was at 850/3600

EDIT: The 4870 is roughly equivalent to a GTX260. It really isn't a surprise that the GTX460 outperforms it.

actually the 260GTX 216Sp beats the 4870 in power usage and performance.. I had two 4870's in xfire couple years back..loved them. Great cards, in xfire they will eat up any game you throw at them.

to anyone who plans to get the 768MB 460GTX, please dont. instead spend a few more bucks and get the 1GB 460GTX instead, you wont regret it..

no, the GTX is the faster one out of the two. maybe HD4870 is only roughly equivalent....but at the end of the day the GTX 260 216SP is the much better and faster card ... HD4870 has no comparison to the 460GTX specially the 1GB version.
