Evga 580 ??

Thread Starter
I'm thinking on getting a 580. Thoughts?

I'm going with evga due to their customer service. I just endured a three month ordeal with Asus. As you can see (sig) I purchased some expensive Asus products. I'm done..... I expect fair treatment which Asus failed to provide until threatened with legal action.

Do it and don't look back. ATi drivers are a pain to work with [in my experience, I know for some it's flawless], and EVGA is the best [imo] nVidia retailer there is.

Asus makes great products, however they fall to crap when you actually need help from Asus. Until then, they rock.

EVGA will cover you completely, as they always do, just make sure you register your card within the 30 day halo, which most ppl do anyways.. there is no reason not to

Sell your 5970 asap and get the gtx 580 if you have a lot of money. If you dont look for a used gtx 480. I love mine and two of them are insane. Sorry about your ASUS issues. They tend to be good unfortunately you bought the ASUS Extreme motherboard and they tend to have a lot of issues were as the one I have (Formula) which is one step below doesn't....

Either way Nvidia will get you flawless performance in any game, The 5970 when I had it was nothing but trouble. I hated it...

Wow i wouldnt throw away an AMD 5970 just like that for a GTX580 is like changing a V10 for a V8(im talking about cars ) i know it has more features than the 5970 but the power consumption will increase also the heat, ill recommend that you wait for something better nvidia/AMD doesnt matter, also the 5970 beats the 580 in almost every game.

Asus was the company that basically made me go out and build my own system because I was so tired of deal with their nonsense and repairs that never were...

I highly recommend EVGA. Whenever I have an issue I give them a call and usually everything is solved very quickly. Their customer support is the best around.

Drivers have not been much of a pain anymore.

The pain comes from the lack of real customer care and support. I love the 5970 when it was working. The flip of the coin is that I just plain dislike the Asus customer service that i received. I filled a BBB claim which went no where as usual. If it means I downgrade from a 5970 to a 580 then so be it. As I see it, what good is a V10 if it's a brick? If Asus would have handled my claim with more sense of care and in a timely fashion then I would have stayed with the 5970.

Im not in a real hurry, so first things first. I will sell my new retail boxed card as soon as it arrives tomorrow on eBay. (I don't have access to sell it on this forum for some reason...)

Im running a Saphire 5850 card which has been my old work horse. I "borrowed" it from my son's computer and replaced his with a EVGA's 470 card. Can I run a 580 and a 470 in the same box? Benefits? SLI?

Not in sli. Thou if you like, you can use 470 as a physX card. But honestly, no needed.

Yes 5970 is getting just a few frames more than 580 in most games. And power is pretty much equal, since 580 on load is little bit hungrier, but on idle 580 is better. Good thing also, you get much more quieter card.

I change my 5870CF setup to 580 and cant be happier.

Frames mean nothing, When I had the 5970 the frames told me one thing, The actual feel of the game told me another...It felt slower. Doesnt have the smoothness that switching to Nvidia gave me which is why I will never go AMD ever again...
