How to boost frames per second

post #1 of 84
Thread Starter
Hey all,

I play Battlefield Bad Company 2 which is pretty demanding and even on the lowest graphic setting my frame rate dips down to 17fps. That's horrible! With an average of 22fps. I can play, but it is very hard and is affecting my game play.

So since i don't have enough money to upgrade my graphics card, my question is, is there a way to use both my on-board and dedicated graphics together to boost my fps? Like is there a program that combines them in like a virtual sli or crossfire? Or is there a cord to plug into both of the dvi or vga ports into a single port my monitor can plug into? Just trying to maximize my performance is all.

My specs are as follows:

Mobo - Asus m3n78-vm
Cpu - AMD Athlon II x2 215 dual core
Ram - 2x1 gb ddr2 800mhz dual channel
Psu - Logisys 480w atx
Gpu - Nvidia Geforce 9400 gt 1gb
case - Cooler Master Elite 310 (modified)
dvd - 22x dvd +- rw dual layer
Hdd(s) -
primary = 500gb 7200rpm western digital sata
seconday = 40gb 7200rpm some brand ide

Cpu stock speed - 2700mhz = 2.7ghz at 1.325v
cpu overclock - 3510mhz = 3.5ghz at 1.392v

ram stock speed - 800mhz 5,4,4,13,18
ram overclock - 1040mhz 6,5,5,15,20

Gpu stock speed -
core 540mhz
shaders 1188mhz
memory 265 mhz

Gpu overclock -
core 655mhz
shaders 1568mhz
memory 376mhz

primary hdd - win 7 work/media drive/storage
secondary hdd - xp gaming drive

Lol gave as much information as i though you could ever possibly need probably more than needed, but if you want anything else please ask. Sorry for the length of this, i appreciate any help! I dont think it is a cpu bottleneck, but ive been wrong before. Again thanks! And to recap my question, is there a way to use both my onboard/built in graphics from my motherboard in unison with my dedicated pcie graphics card? Or by all the information i gave you, what can i do to increase fps?

You could upgrade to a 9800gt used for like 50 bucks. You'll have no fps problems, it's single slot and requires no external power connectors. Scrounge for the $50.

I know with lower end dedicated cards and Hybrid CrossfireX it's possible, I guess from the other answers there's no Nvidia equivalent.

Actually according to nvidia the 8200 chipset can hybrid SLI , you can take a look in the nvidia control pnael if maybes theres an option for you to enable that type of SLI, the pother thing that i recommend is that you play at the lowest settings and resolution if you want to improve the framerates at least it is going to run almost fine.

A lot!!!! huge jump upgrading from a 9400GT to a 9800GT at 1280 x 1024 the 9800Gt will destroy the games.

What about the RAM? Mine is running 2X2GB and uses about 60% when full on gaming, so maybe the RAM is holding everything back?

Just get a second 9400GT to SLi with your first one. That probably wouldn't cost so much.
