How to boost frames per second - Page 3

Get a quad It helped me improve my FPS. When I had My gts 250. I could play ~45fps on high 2x AA with my current Cpu.

Even though you have no money I'm going to suggest you go buy a quad core.

Lower the resolution that you play at, this will help a lot.

Even though he has a 9400gt?! I'd sooner plunk down >$100 on a graphics card than on a quad core when he already has a dual core...

Listen, don't think your RAM is at fault. I might be running 4 GB now, but I only had 2 GB in my rig from 2008-end of 2010 (yes, 2 GB RAM in a gamer rig with a decently OC'ed C2D and first an 8800 GT for 2 years and then my current card since May 2010). I promise you that your RAM is not the bottleneck. 2 GB will easily be enough for a mid-end PC, both for XP and 7.

This is true, but if you can OC the CPU to around 3-3.5 GHz, then you should be good to go. It will bottleneck the 9800 GT at those speeds, but you should be able to live with that.
Thanks, i didnt think the ram was at fault. I have oc'ed my cpu from 2.7 to 3.5
as well as my ram from 800mhz to 1040mhz my gpu also like 10% or so as well.

Have you tried to overclock at all? you may be able to squeeze another -8 fps to get you near 25 steady.

Already have. But i plan on overclocking my gpu a bit further because i didnt push it that much. cpu doesnt like it if i go much further and starts becoming unstable no matter what i do at 3.6 as well as ram, cant get it any higher than 1080 and i have it at 1040mhz So i already have pushed it a little farther.
I will lower resolution and see how much it helps thanks... I had just set all else to lowest.

I guess i am going to have to save up a bit for some new components...

Okay so down to it, what would make the most profound difference? The cpu or the gpu?

Oh i also had another question, what should i set my render ahead limit at? If i set it higher will it be better? So that my gpu doesnt have to work as hard o keep up with the cpu?
