Trouble OCing my Asus GTX 580

Thread Starter
even if I have a VERY modest OC on it without changing the voltage, I get video card crashes in games. I see people getting all kinds of overclocks but I can't seem to get anything, even marginal.

Help!

If you haven't tried adjusting the GPU voltage, try that with this. If you can't OC, that's still okay, the 580 is a really nice card. And if you're having trouble OC'ing far, try using an artifact finding software, or use Furmark. It'll really get the GPU burning.

I do use furmark, and I'm not getting artifacts. Whenever I'm running a game though it says "display driver has stopped working" etc.

I'm not new to OCing video cards, I'm just having a lot of trouble getting anywhere with this one. Asus provides a great voltage tweak utility but when I do mod the voltage I get the same problem.

Are your cards getting too hot? I receive that message if my card gets too hot. What are you idle and load temps?

Can you state what your "modest overclocks" are?

Also ONLY overclock the core, and test. Then do the ram.

At a guess... you are overclocking both and your ram has not got a lot of headroom

Hey spandy. You and i have the same problem i think. I can oc my asus card without any volt tweaking to 830 MHz stable.. What ive read this is around what we can get without changeing the volt and temps are rock stable. But 870 MHz and ive tried all different volts and memory settings is the top of My overclocking limmit. Past that i get a hard freeze and need to do a hard reboot of the system. My temps arnt high, around 65- 70 degrees while benching. So is our volt limmiter lower on these Asus cards?? Whats your bios version??
