KRK RP5 G2 vs M-Audio BX5a deluxe

Guitar Center is currently selling the RP5 G2 for $99 each and I just bought a pair. I already have the BX5a and wanted to do an A/B test with them to see which monitors I want to keep. The only problem is that GC charges a 15% restocking fee if I open the box. I want to avoid this restocking fee if I decide to return it.

So how do these two compare? I will be using them with a Musiland Monitor 02 DAC & Dayton SUB100. I use them more for enjoyment than for monitoring.

My music preference is 50% hip-hop, 35% electronic (DnB/Dubstep/Electro house), 15% other (jazz, alternative, rock).

Please only provide feedback if you have heard and compared BOTH monitors

i prefer the rp5g2, they are amazing for the price, i always recommend them, lol @ audioengine

the bx5a's sound is brighter, for your music genres, definitely keep the krk

a future alternative might be the mackie MR5, the RP5G2 and MR5 are the best active monitors under $300 imo

the mr5 is a bit warmer than the rp5g2, the rp5g2 is the most neutral

btw, if you bring a cd, guitar center should have all their monitors plugged in to A/B...

Thanks for the quick reply. There was no RP5 on display so I didnt bother asking. I also wanted to test them out in my room specifically with my DAC and sub.

What makes the RP5 better than the BX5a for my music tastes? How does the low end compare with these two?

If anybody is looking for KRK monitors, buy them NOW @ GC. $99 for RP5/$130 for RP6/$150 for RP8. These are the cheapest Ive ever seen them for brand new. If they are not the same price at the store, ask them to do a price match with their internet store price.
