2 RCAs into one RCA aka a Y-splitter cable..hold on, I'll find you a pic.

make sure all the ends are male..obviously that cable in particular is too short but you can find longer ones or use it to extend a single male to female RCA cable.

confusing, isn't it?

rca left and right on the card must remain separate. the rca would need to convert to a power and ground banana plug for each side on the card. then from the sub convert into line level - see below - (left and right, same way as before). connect the the right speaker to the left speaker with speaker wire.

example of line-level

rca to banana, use these

You go from the Line Out on the speakers (dual RCA) into the "Sub" input on the sub.

I think the M-audios will send a full range signal to the sub (doesn't matter, that's what the X-over is for).

A quick starting point is to double the lowest frequency the satellite speaker can reproduce. Say its 40Hz (which the Av40 ain't), set the X-over to 80Hz. Seamless integration of the sub is key.

Edit: Greatonekb- that's a trick way to get signal from the card to the speakers amp, thanks for the tip!

usually using the "sub in" requires a special "sub out" rca from the source, it won't carry anything to the speakers (i think). the xonar st doesn't have a sub out right?

uh oh...I'm wrong. very wrong.

The Av-40s don't have a line out...I demo'd those in guitar center a few months ago and the guy said "that's the line out for a sub" pointing to the rca jacks.

I just googled it to be sure.

Seems he was wrong, that a secondary input.

I still think you could somehow split the signal from the card but that starts to get complicated.

sorry about that, my bad....

You cannot use the banana plugs area. That is strictly for amps/receivers, not low-level input.

You need this cable

Then you need to split each of the output from the sound card into 2. Use that RCA Y-splitter and plug into the sub.

td;dr

I never tested it out, but according to my knowledge, it will work without a problem. I am not responsible if your sub, speakers, computer, or yourself blow up.

FOR AV40, CROSS AT 80HZ.
