Memtest(under DOS) is different than P95 (under Windows). You can pass 100hours(memtest) and crash in a few minutes(windows)
Most of the time, you will need higher RAM Voltage than stock to pass P95. Otherwise the famous Hardware Error (Core #... stopped working). That happened to me with 4 diff. RAMs.

Here is my 4GHz OC...955-C2
You can hit higher clocks for CPU/NB and RAM even if is a C2 stepping CPU

CPU/NB...2600
RAM 1600 8-8-8-24

What IOSEFINI said. I usually use HyperPi @ 32M setting, HCI Memtest, and Prime95 blend to test RAM within the OS.
