Rosewill RK-9000

Thread Starter
So I've been typing on a laptop keyboard (which i now know of as a scissor-switch keyboard - very awesome guide up there) for about 7 months now. I'm going to be building a new rig, and I want a mechanical keyboard to go with it. Mostly for gaming and school work.

I was thinking of the RK-900, as its a fairly cheap mechanical KB and one of few on newegg.ca. So, I have a few questions...

Are there better places to buy mechanical KB's in Canada? And are there better mechanical KB's for the price (99.00 on newegg.ca, please remember im dealing in canadian funds! )? I also type using dvorak, started about 7 months ago, and iv developed better typing habits so i wont be switching back. Can I readjust the keys or would it be better to get stickers?

I just purchased an RK-9000 and I love it. It will be tough to find a cheaper keyboard with as good quality. Unicomps and the Razer Blackwidow might be a little cheaper, but there is a lot of debate as to if they are as well-built as a Rosewill/Filco.

Newegg.ca is probably your only option for the Rosewill (besides Ebay), because it is a brand owned by Newegg. In the US you can also order it from chiefvalue.com, but they don't ship outside the US.

The keycaps on Cherry MX switches are easily removed using this little tool, so rearranging the layout should be no problem unless I'm missing something.

I'm not worried about removing the keycaps, I just don't want to have to turn the key caps sideways when relocating the F and J letters that have the bump on them. I know on other keyboards i've had to do that.

Stickers might be better (unless you can convince geekhack to do a double shot order), or just going cold turkey.

Each row has a slightly different profile - keys in the middle row (asdfghjkl etc.) have a different profile from the others (qwertyuiop, zxcvbnm...). I'm pretty sure this would make typing with DVORAK awkward.

I was learning COLEMAK at one point and elected to get a blank Filco so I wouldn't regret it if I did switch. I may try again...

Thanks for the info. I think I'm going to go with the Das Ultimate S model, from NCIX.

If you get the Das Keyboard, you should use it with a PS/2 adapter if you want to take advantage of it's n-key rollover.
