Anyway, at any warm environment its pretty much sure that the 955be c3 will hit 70c at 4Ghz on full load. So, to run this cpu at that clock speed or above, you will need powerful cooling solutions. I think I saw that you are using the hyper212+ (not sure if its you or someone else on some other thread), hyper212+ is a very good cooler but is not enough for OCed 3.9GHz+ systems.
To comment on the stability, however I shall have to know which error Prime95 gives you. Different issues generate diff errors. To pinpoint it (cpu or ram or ?) I gotta know that. So please run p95 in blend mode and post the error name/code here.

I'm actually running a 212+ under mineral oil (check my sig). biggrin.gif

The temperature of the oil itself is a comfortable 31c right now. I have a pump sucking the hot oil off of the topside of the CPU, into a radiator, and then dumping it to the bottomside of the cpu.

I'm unfamiliar with P95 (I've been running OCCT exclusively). How long should I run P95 for?

Maybe I was giving the NB too much juice, and that caused the instability. I'm going to try bumping up the CPU voltage to 1.5v at 4Ghz, and trying the CPU-NB at about 1.3v at 2700Mhz. We'll see what that does.

Download p95.... select blend test. Run it till any of the four worker threads stop and then publish the error it generated here.
I have to learn about this oil cooling from you mate , but cant talk right now....... the barcelona match is about to start, so gotta go....... will be back after a few hours.

Man I'm having a bad day. I dropped everything back down to a known stable level (4Ghz at 1.44v, NB 2400Mhz at 1.3v) and OCCT and Prime 95 crash within *seconds*. CPU hits about 50c and cores hit close to 70c.

I'm worried it's one of two things:

(1) My chip has bit the dust; or
(2) My heatsink isn't making good contact (perhaps my mineral oil has dissolved my thermal grease).

I'm reaaaaaally hoping it's neither. #1 would require an RMA or a new purchase, and #2 would involve lifting my mobo out of its bath

Thoughts?

Its half time in the game so m here for 15 min.
Your error is the result of an unstable cpu oc. P95 is the hardest test to run for a cpu, so in many cases when other tests pass a cpu as fine, p95 may fail it. crash in 30 seconds mean that its horribly unstable, you may not notice the effects in desktop apps but calculations that require heavy cpu use will result in unusable data return.
Solution, first step is to increase the cpu voltage in smallest steps (allowed by mobo bios) and run p95 each time to test stability. Do not cross 1.5v though, many people run their cpu with mure volts but I am not comfortable with it (especially considering my ambient temp and inadequate cooling solution). If you are lucky, you will get stability for 8/9 hours of prime testing. But no matter how stable you think your cpu is, it will fail prime test at a long run, simply because your cpu is not meant to run at that high speed. Having said that, a 8/9 hour stability in prime will guarantee you stable gaming/normal computing.

As for cooling, buddy, the only things I can tell you are already clear to you. Reseat heatsink, buy better cooling solution......blah blah blah. If you must pursue those high speeds, think about upgrading to a custom water cooling setup. I hear great things about those. And I really cant advice you about that oil cooling thing, simply because I dont know anything about it ( was seriously hoping to learn from you). Anyway, fiddle with the voltage for now, and i will return after the game. best of luck.

Regarding mineral oil cooling: http://www.pugetsystems.com/submerged.php

A few people on here have built them. It's cheaper than WC, and allows you to essentially cool *everything* at once. Full submersion cooling. I should be getting better temperatures though...I think the heatsink isn't making good contact.

I tried 1.5v on the CPU and it choked as well. It's possible that my CPU temp sensor is busted as well, who knows?

Either way, +REP given. You've been a huge help. I'll let ya know what happens.

This:

Is what is making me so mad. As of last week, I could hit 4Ghz on 1.44v completely stable after an hour of OCCT. Ever since I started playing with the CPU/NB, things have been going wonky. I just don't get it. I'll have to check my thermal paste I suppose...What a weird coincidence though.

Heres a thought, lower your ram speed to 1600MHz. Try the benchmarks, if its stable you can start increasing that slowly.

You should probably run that OCCT for more around 3 hours.
