New Mobos.... gigabyte.... when ?? - Page 3

I received an email back from Gigabyte Taiwan headquarters that says the X58 killer series and the X58A-OC will be available before the end of February.

I still haven't decided if I'll get the G1.Assassin which can only do 3-way SLI (but has tons of features) or the X58A-OC which can do 4-way SLI (incredible over clock potential).

You can read some updates on Gigabytes blog from Taiwan: http://gigabytedaily.blogspot.com/20...se-is-new.html

the G1 killer can do 4 way SLi too. The guy who updates that blog ain't from Taiwan, but just as reputable.

Bigfoot Killer NIC is a scam. And aren't they unsupported in Linux? Rofl.
Way to jack up the board prices for no logical reason.

The main Gigabyte site says the killer series can only do 3-way SLI max. I am thinking they only have one NF200 whereas the X58A-OC has 2x NF200. http://www.gigabyte.com/microsite/259/features.htm

By the way, if anyone has by chance read my build thread, you will find out tri/quad crossfire is a scam at high resolutions as the bridges are such low bandwidth they crash.

As for the blog, I was just going by what it says at the top: A group of motherboard tech nerds working at GIGABYTE headquarters in Taipei, Taiwan sharing their insider knowledge.

I've seen some reviews that say it works and some that say it doesn't. I haven't read of it hurting anything so no big deal. I read somewhere that OEM's are only getting charged $20 for the network chip, no big deal.

yea no i see where it says that lol. about the nerds, just know that if they were Taiwanese that blog wouldn't be so well articulated lol. But they do have foreign nationals working in HQ.

Anyways i don't think those G1 boards have an NF200 there is no need on the ones with only 3 PCi-E slots and the 1 with four might have one, but i doubt it, X58 can do 8x x4, idk why they don't advertise 4 way sli.

The X58A-OC yea that will most likley have nf200s

The G1.Assassin only stating it has 3-way SLI support almost guarantee's it only has 1 NF200. nVidia only certifies 2x NF200 chip motherboards for quad-SLI enforced through BIOS and driver.

The X58A-OC has to have 2x NF200 for quad-SLI as pretty much the entire point of this board is to drop in a 990/995x, sub-zero it and quad-SLI for record attempts. Pretty much a higher end replacement for the UD9.

why would a G1 killer have an nf200 chipset?

The X58 IOH has 36 lanes, it can run SLI at 16x,8x,8x natively, there is no reason to toss in a NF200.

That would just increase the cost of the board for no reason. If you haven't noticed UD9 is gone, that is b/c GB release 1 board with nf200 on it per series at a time.

Reviews for it have been pretty awful. Total waste of money and problematic sometimes too. Even the newer 2100 Killer is crap. The only company still offering it on Newegg is Visiontek. Stay away IMHO. This was a really bad move by Gigabyte incorporating these NIC's in these boards. Marketing decision I'm sure, but still epic fail.

Yes thats true, 16x,8x,8x natively with no NF200. I wonder if the lack of latency delay with no NF200 would balance out with the increased throughput of allowing 16x/16x/16x if it had one.

Though I am sure the X58A-OC will have 2x NF200 and quad 16x electrical.

it would be nice if all the X58A-OC ports will be 16x ports electrically just so you can space the cards out for ln2 or whatever.

honestly the NF200 chipset will hurt performance on X58 compared to 16x,16x,16x, unless its at 2600x1440 resolution, something huge like that is when 16x,16x,16x would be the winner because then that GPUs need more bandwidth. In that scenario you would also have to use top of the line cards like fermi of the 6970 or whatever AMD's offering is. Funny because i get a 6950 i think next week for review.

When it comes to a platform like P67 with a very fast PCI-E controller(very low latency) the NF200 allows P67 to beat out or tie my x58 system in SLI 16x,16x vs 16x,16x.

I also doubt they would take up the price of the G1 killer by adding an Nf200. That board woudl cost like 300-400 bucks.
