realssd 128gb and daily wipe gutmann pass ok?

Thread Starter
i use a wipe and clean software to clear browser cache and cookies, ect...

have always used gutmann pass on other drives like wd 1tb black.

is it still ok to use gutmann pass on my realssd 128gb ssd?
if no then which pass if any do i use?

I am no expert, but I believe those passes are write/erase, and doing a gutmann pass will wear out an ssd significantly faster than regular erasing. As for security, you will have to google it.

More importantly, due to various wear-leveling methods, a multi-pass write/rewrite method will almost certainly not use the same flash blocks every pass, possibly resulting in whatever data you are seeking to obliterate to still be readable with data recovery software.

If it is critically important to you that this data be able to be obliterated, I would suggest keeping it on a magnetic medium, or relocating it to a very small SSD (4-8GB) that supports ATA Secure Erase, and using a Secure Erase utility for that SSD. Keeping in mind that such an SSD might only have a life of 1000-10000 such secure erase cycles.

More to the point, why do you feel the need to wipe everyday? If it's a personal computer there is no need, I wipe mine about once/twice a year, and there is not much need to do Gutmann either.

If it's a shared PC, deleting cookies/history within the browser will do, unless you are trying to hide something.
