looking for new keyboard

Thread Starter
So half the keys on my g15 just died, now i'm looking for a new one. I'm half tempted to get a mechanical keyboard, but the price is turning me off? What's the best bang for the buck?

right now you should just wait for Elite Keyboards to stock the new Leopolds, then you should be able to get one for only 20-30 more than the G15, assuming you paid the $100 retail price for the G15. They are REALLY worth the extra trust me, you will never want to have a non-mechanical ever again.

EDIT: keep in mind that that includes an average shipping cost, the new boards will most likely be $110 or so plus the shipping. Nothing has been for sure yet, but that is what i think based on what things have cost in the past and how the owner of EK said that these will be a little less money than the previous boards they sold.

Tester mechanical keyboards would be the Dell at101w, found on ebay and various website for around $15-20, keys are stiffer than cherrys but it a cheap board to see if you like the feel of mechanical keyboards, Another option is getting IBM model M's also found around the same price.

Overall both keyboards are on the stiffer side, but a little time and you fingers get use to it. I can not say that the higher end board such as rosewill-900 of filco are going to feel the same as the ones i recommended but it gives you an idea of the feel and tactile feedback you will experience.

I have 2 Dells and a Filco. I would not base my opinion/first impression on those dell (alps?) switches at all.

Can't get much decent for $50, except a used IBM Model M perhaps.

Dell AT101Ws are common and cheap but are not representative of mechanical keyboards as a whole. Black Alps switches are considered weird and mediocre, with a double tactile bump for some reason.

sidewinder x4 has good roll over if your a gamer. keytronics have decent key feel for rubber domes. both in your price range.

that sounds just....terrible

to op, if you can just save up some more money and get a cherry Brown board and you will love it guaranteed, everyone who tries browns first loves them Unless they are used to super heavy keys, but i dont think that is something you have had to worry about at all.

FWIW, my frist mech was mx browns on a filco majestouch. I really didnt like them TBH. Too light and felt delicate. Sold it after about an hour or two of use.
