CPU Temp 57°, Core Temps 51° (1090t)

Thread Starter
I'm trying to OC my system, but I have a question about temps.

tempzr.png

The CPU temp says 55c, while the Core temps say 50-51.

Which temperature should I trust, and how much higher can I allow it to get?

Thanks

there are known problems with the amd six cores when it comes to temp monitoring. add like 10c to the core temps and you have your temp.
Max temp you will want to see is 62. That 57 you see is close to the real temp but like thrasherht said add 10-12 to the core temp and that should you give an idea and will usually be close to the socket temp. Based on those, you are dangerously close and should probably invest in an aftermarket cooler. I'm waiting to overclock my 1055T until the Cooler Master Hyper 212+ goes on sale.

I use PC Probe as the most trusted base monitor.

57C is a bit too close for me. Anything over 55C can cause instability by it self.

As for after market cooling, the Scythe Mugen II with push/pull will, and does out perform a hyper 212 especially on a hexacore. If your looking to OC past 4.0GHz I wouldn't get anything less than a Mugen. The Noctua is hands down the best HSF. Not that much more if you add the cost of P/P to a Mugen so if your budget allows get the Noctua and be happy the first time around.

My Mugen at 4013MHz and 1.406v runs a spike of 54C under full load 24 hrs of Prime95 with ambient of 20.2C. Average running is 50-53c under load.

I forgot to mention I have a CoolerMaster V8 in there, maybe it's not installed correctly?

I too would like to know the difference between CPU temp and Core temp (I have a Phenom II X4 955). Which should I look at when considering the max temp of 62c?

go by socket (cpu) temp, <62c is the technical limit, but <55c is ideal

Okay, thanks for all the replies.

The air temperature in the room (basement) is like 60F/15C. The case is on the cement floor which is cold to the touch. The HAF case is well ventilated and I added an additional fan that blows outside air towards the heatsink.

So if my temps are this high, would it be safe to say that the heatsink isn't installed correctly? Maybe air bubbles in the thermal grease?

I'm gonna reseat the CoolerMaster and see if that helps.

Anybody got any other ideas?

Thanks again.

I had a V8, and I do not think they are that great. I could be priming and everything, but whenever I would touch the V8, the pipes would be cool. Definitely wasn't transferring heat well. This was after multiple reseats.
