5770 vs 6950 vs CF6950 (56K Hiccup)

The day began like any other day. Drab, snowy and and impending doom that is going to work. Until....

The UPS man cometh. (Might I add today he showed up 5 mins. before I had to go to work mad.gif)But that didn't stop me from going inside and wreaking havoc upon the newegg box like I had diabetes and inside was the insulin. And what was inside you ask....?

img0328p.jpg
Only the most beautiful effin' sight my eyes could behold! BUT, off to work.

One AM couldn't come fast enough for I knew what was waiting for me when I arrived back home. By the shear grace of God and not succumbing to speeding tickets or a disastrous car wreck I made it home ran inside and embarked on a mission that leads me to you fine people at 5.09AM.

Upon opening these beautes, the first thing you notice is the no frills packaging. Besides the outer box, it is void of any other graphical attempt at coolness. Cool in its own right if you ask me. I mean, coolness needs no introduction. So I unwrap these puppies.....

img0330sb.jpg

Second thing you notice is the shear size of these monsters. Compared to pre 6-generation cards, they are monstrosities. Almost practical joke big. Look at it compared to my Sapphire 5770....

img0336c.jpg

Needless to say at this point I am psyched. So i hook em up, juice em, bridge em, and flip the switch. Away we go. Thats right. Just like that. No "Ah, ATI drivers suck" garbage here. So I began to wonder how much of an improvement I would gain. So I did some minor benching. I tried doing 3DMark 11, but couldn't stand waiting too long. So instead I decided to use HeavenBench. So that being said, these results can't be read into TOO much as its only one bench. And a Dx11 Bench at that.

System being used was the CH IV Extreme with my 1090T. Everything stock. No overclocks on CPU or GPU(s) and cards haven't been flashed to 6970's (YET:D).

So here what a single 5770 at stock speeds faired....

5770q.jpg

Nothing impressive. But has served me well in my gaming to this point.

Lets compare that to a single 6950....

single6950.jpg

So from 24.9 max FPS to 57. I can hardly contain my excitement. I see firsthand the results yielded by my new baby. And it walked up one side of my 5770 and down the next. Video was clear, smooth, noticed alot of improvements and detail.

Then onto the Xfired 6950's......

cf6950.jpg

Yea, I know. Impressive. It doubled the single 6950 (which I suppose makes sense). It totally beat the snot outta the 5770. So, was it worth it? If you have to ask, scroll back to the top of this thread and start over. This time with your eyes open. See ya OCN wave2.gif

Haha, I was putting it off, but said screw it. Although now I hear the 7 generation cards are right around the corner.

Heres what I did to my 6950.

Got an Asus 6950 BIOS from TPU, used the batch file from TPU to unlock the shaders on the BIOS and flashed my card with it. Then I installed Asus SmartDoctor and went into settings and told it to unlock CCC so the limit was higher than 840/whatever the limit for memory was and it worked, uninstalled SmartDoctor and I now control and overclock with MSI AB. PowerPlay and everything still work with my card overclocked and 1.2V, 1.1V default.
