this tool is great. Quick way to make a usb drive bootable. Just add your iso.

You will need a Windows ".iso" file. How you acquire one, is totally up to you.

If you want to change settings, make unattended installs before you put it on the usb stick, i suggest vLite.

How to Create a bootable Flash Drive

1. Plug in your USB Drive and save all files from it, then format the USB flash memory drive to FAT32 file system

Run CMD.EXE and type the following command. Note: This set of commands assumes that the USB flash drive is addressed as “disk 1″. Double check that by doing a list of the disks (type “list disk”) before cleaning it).

1. diskpart
2. list disk (note drive letter)
3. select disk X (X = Drive Letter)
4. clean
5. create partition primary
6. select partition 1
7. active
8. format fs=fat32
9. assign
10. exit

To boot windows Vita or Windows 7

Type the dvd drive letter + the following: (Represented by "d" below)

d:\\boot\\bootsect.exe /nt60 x: (NOTE* x = USB Drive letter)

Then copy all of the files from the OS Install disc to your usb drive, and then restart your computer...

You will need to do one of two things, either enter the boot menu (often F8 at startup), or go into the bios and set the USB Drive as the first hard drive...

Restart & install... NOTE: It's MUCH FASTER to install from a USB than a DVD..

Hope this helps

You need Windows AIK (see microsoft.com) installed FIRST as well, also you must next install vLine 1.1.6 FIRST before you install the new vLite 1.2 final edition... (IMPORTANT)

After you have all of that, then you will be able to create and unattended ISO.

He is correct, you do need the original Disc or ISO of the disc in order to do any of this.

You can also use an External HDD.

I have a 5GB partition on my External HDD that always has my copy of Windows 7 on it. To install windows into something all i do is plug it into the computer and set the BIOS to boot from the external HDD
  • To do that you go to disk management (Start menu -> Right click computer and click "Manage" -> Storage -> Disk Management)
  • Right click on your external HDD.
  • Shrink the volume by about 5GB.
  • Create a new volume (FAT32) from the 5GB unallocated space
  • Right click on it and click "Mark Partition as Active")
  • Copy and paste the contents of the Windows 7 disk to the partition (no ISO needed.)
  • Restart the computer and set the BIOS to boot from the External HDD
  • Install Windows 7
  • ........?
  • PROFIT!

This same method can be applied to a USB flashdrive as well, all you need to do is format it to FAT32 and copy the contents (there really is no need to create an ISO, just copy and paste). Then you need to go to disk management and mark the partition on the USB flashdrive as active.

You can use WSUOffline Updater, It's a legal free program.

This will allow you to download ALL of the updates to burn to an ISO, and install them offline, I use this a lot because I repair A LOT of computers every day..

You can also take the contents of the ISO and just use that (on a usb), run the Update.exe application within to get it run, remember to save everything to a folder from the ISO, that way you can find it all in one convenient place later, I often label this folder "XP SP3 Offline Updates", etc.
