PC Died (Didn't know where else to put this)...

Thread Starter
Last night the power went off on my University campus... I turned the outlet on the wall there off, as well as unplugged my PC and everything else in case it came back on or surged or anything like that...

Well I woke up this morning, the power is back... But my PC will not turn on?

What do I do?

- I have never, in the three years since I built my first PC, had one simply not turn on... So I am clueless... I also have no way of testing for problems, no instruments and no parts here...

Thanks

Do the fans spin up at all or is there any visible indicator, that power is going through the board?

First you check to make sure you have power at the outlet

Then turn off your PSU

Re Plug in your wire to the PSU and turn your PSU switch back on.

Turn on all switches.. There may be a reset somewhere in the circuit so look for something simple like that.. That is what it usually is.. Something simple and you miss it because it is so simple.

turn on computer.

Nope no power... The only indicator at all I got was right when I woke up, I turned the outlet my PC goes to back on (has a switch to activate and deactivate it), I then plugged my PC back in and switched my PSU back on... Right when I switched it on, a light on my mouse lit up... After about 5 seconds it turned off and nothing does anything now...

Flipping the switch on and off, hitting the power button, etc...

Does your monitor have power?

Do a paperclip test on your PSU. I'll find the link for the how to and edit it in.

Step 3 of this guide is how to turn a PSU on by it self.

Is that an actual outlet or a surge protector you're referring to?

Yes everything on my desk has power apart from my PC - 360, PS3, 2 Monitors... All of them work, PC won't even turn on...

And to the other guy ^ no lights on my mobo, or anywhere...

An actual outlet...

I also have a power strip all of my other things are plugged into, and have tried attaching the PC to that... No joy there either...
