eyefinity setup 2x22" and 1x24"

Thread Starter
I have a 24" acer and was wondering if I could add 2 22" monitors for an eyefinity setup (I understand that the resolutions need to be the same for each monitor); however, the height of the 24" and 22" are extremely close (15.73" and 15.85")

I could save a couple bucks here and to be honest I know the outside monitors are somewhat less of a focus while playing. As long as the transition between the main 24" and exterior 22" monitors is very close, I think I would rather have the 22" monitors.

Thanks for all of your input/help

As long as you don't plan on portrait mode, that setup would work fine. Just make sure that each one has the same native resolution. LCDs look like crap if you scale the image.

If the 24" is 1920x1080, and the 22" monitors would be 1920x1080 as well, it'd work GREAT!

Just one problem though, activating bezel comp is not guaranteed. There's a couple of glitches that might make you be able to activate it, but actual bezel comp from the CCC would be disabled. Most likely you would never be able to activate it.

the computer doesn't know/care about screen size. the resolution is what matters.

Yup. I have a feeling that bezel comp won't work on this. Mainly because the only thing that is the same between the monitors is the resolution. Given how everything else is different I think the AMD drivers are going to scream murder.

That being said, I'm not sure it would even look good in the first place. Different diagonals at the same resolution mean that even with bezel compensation the image is going to look very disjunct. I strongly doubt even if the Eyefinity calibration page could be gotten-that he'd be able to produce a calibration that produces a normal looking image.

This is factually wrong in every way.

The AMD drivers scan the EDID info DIRECTLY off the monitor. So yes, your computer knows EXACTLY what the make, model, serial number, diagonal, bezel size, resolution, pixel density, dot pitch, refresh rates etc. is.

If the Eyefinity drivers don't see damn near identical EDID info between panels then bezel compensation is disabled.

thanks for the replies..

So without bezel correction it is going to look weird?

So I take it that you guys don't think it will look good and probably worth the 70 bucks more to upgrade to 24" screens?

Thanks so much all

1) Yep, it'll look weird. The effect of Eyefinity with Bezel compensation, is that you're looking out a window-that lines from one monitor are continuous across bezels. That is that all lines/objects appear to pass under the bezels from one monitor to another. Without BC, all lines stop and restart at the bezel, resulting in a very disjunct image.

2) Definitely worth it. Do your very best to get identical monitors. Anything other than the same exact model number is a roll of the dice as to whether BC will work or not. Nothing more annoying than dumping a pile of cash on something that ends up not working-or worse working worse than what you had before.

On my Eyefinity setup, I wave 2 Acers 17" 1280x1024 and a Dell 17" 1280x1024. Same resolution, same diagonal, bezel size within a millimeter of being the same. I could enable bezel compensation, and calibrate it...but clicking "Apply" would crash the drivers to desktop. I got it working by going through the Windows' Screen Resolution menu--and (I believe) bypassing the driver checks. Once Eyefinity/BC is setup, Catalyst doesn't seem to care the EDID check only seems to happen when configuring through Catalyst.

Bezel comp is definitely worth it. without it things just look bad.

though, some games don't like bezel resolutions like 6060x1200 (varies)

i was talking about general scaling not bezel comp.

thanks Skripka!!

I was going to order the same 24" monitors that my original one is. I got this monitor in the first place due to the small bezels. So I will wait go ahead and order the 24" screens.

thanks for the help
