Help a n00b with an Intel build optimization

I have my system running smoothly it seems, but would like to learn about the optimization process before I actually need it. It's my sig rig and here is the CPU Z screenshots http://img819.imageshack.us/f/cpuzi.jpg/ Thanks.

Hi, i think before you think about Optimization you need to have a definite goal in mind, in relation to what you want to use your machine for. Without this just a general optimization makes no sense.

True, basically it's for use with CS5 master suite and a couple of other media related wares. The RAM is only showing 1066 and it's rated at 1600, so that's my first issue. I'm not wanting to push the system to it's limits, just find out what those limits are and pull it back some.

Alright so now that we know your main angle for optimization we can slowly begin identifying areas that would enhance your computer.

Let's begin with your RAM. The speed you have quoted is not an issue. It is just that in the beginning your computer will come with stock settings. This is the stock setting for your particular motherboard and you may change it any time you want. Just note that pushing it to 1600 get tougher as your overclock becomes higher and higher simply because of voltages and clocks.

Next, we could start out by identifying what speed you want to attain. Since you have an H70 i don't see any problem in currently attempting a mild overclock similar to my 24x7 overclock of 3.71Ghz. If you are interested in this i shall post the settings you should tweak in your BIOS.

Yes please. The thing is, I'm brand new to this side of computing. I have built numerous computer from scratch, but never tweaked the settings and I'm having a hard time figuring where to start.

Yes well the first thing i encourage you to do is to verse yourself with the terms used in your BIOS. Try and learn up the settings you have to deal with and where they're placed. Next, go to this thread and read up on the terms you just saw(which probably seemed like hoowa).

http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/...920-930-a.html

Then once you get a general idea as to how everything is interconnected(it takes some time) you can begin tweaking past the settings i provide to you right now.

This is an excel file(See attachment) that i created to allow me to test out settings and catalog them in an organized fashion so i dont end up attempting setting that have failed previously.

For CS5, if you are doing video rendering, RAM>CPU
You need at least 8GB+ if you are not just casually rendering.

The 9 series i7 supports tri-channel DDR3, you will benifit from running tri-channel 6GB or 12GB of ram vs dual channel 4GB.

Next, with a H50, you can aim your overclock at 4Ghz (20x200) so your ram can run at its designed speed 1600, if you dun want to push that high, 3.8 is also reasonable. You will also benifit from higher clock in CS5.

Lastly, working with CS5, you might want to RAID your drives for far better performance since you already have multiple drives.

And the previous guy is right...but youve already bought the stuff so...if you're interested in creating a redundancy for your hardrives(RAID) we can also do that.

Sorry about that. I would actually give you the rep but I don't have any, how does that work? I O U 1 rep when I get it:-) Yeah I've pretty much topped out on the RAM modules, maybe overkill right now, but it gives me head room for the future. I have input the settings you posted in the xls file you posted. I did it in the AI suite that was on my motherboard driver disk and it doesn't seem to have affected anything, but my main goal is to get my head around all this terminology and you've helped me in that. I bought the HDD's with a raid in mind. Do I need an even number of disks for the required RAID and if so, would you recommend SSD or a 10000 RPM sata?
