Restarted computer and lost overclock settings :S

Hey guys,

I'd overclocked my watercooled q6600 to 3.6GHz (Bumped the vid up from 1.21250V to 1.32500V to achieve this) and everything seemed to be running perfectly. I ran Prime95 and at first did a small FFT test for about 4 hours
and everything checked out okay so I proceeded to run a blend test (just for the sake of the RAM really and to make sure everything was perfect) Anyway I ran that over night for about 12 hours and again it checked out stable. I even ran 3D Mark Vantage to see if it'd crash as it has done while I was trying to find a stable voltage. Anyway I'd installed a program so I was about to restart my computer. It'd shut down now so I went to turn it on again but strangely it powered on then straight off a couple times. Now I thought nothing of this because my computer did this some times while I was initially putting it together but hadn't done it since. So I left it for a bit then it booted into windows just fine only my overclock had completely disappeared!
I went into the BIOS MIT and was warned by this message

"The system has experienced boot failures because of overclocking or changes of voltages"

Pretty unsure what to do now and I thought my system was stable. Thought I'd get a 2nd (or 3rd) opinion on the matter before just ignoring it and re-entering my overclock values.

Any help would be much appreciated. I tried to give as much detail as possible if you'd like all my BIOS settings just say.

Cheers!

My old 775 system used to do this aswell almost like somebody pulling the plug from the wall it could happen after 1 hour or 5 seconds from turning the pc on, In the end it was the psu that was at fault so i guess the extra stress from overclocking has done this. ???

also if you revert to standard settings it will continue to do this as mine did aswell. I bought a quality psu and all was ok after that

Well my PC isn't actually restarting on it's own... I restarted it. And lost the settings... I reverted to the original settings and it was fine so I went back to the overclocked settings and it appears to be fine now to... Doubt it's the quality of my PSU though... It's a brand new Corsair unit...

I've had this happen on 3 different computers - 1x775 and 2x1366, all asus motherboards. I don't think it has anything to do with system stability because I can be stable on all sorts of tests and it just sometimes seems to happen at boot, on some of them more than others. You can usually turn the message off in the bios I think. I just go into the bios confirm the OC settings are still there and reboot, it always works fine again. It's a pain if you're building a pc for others though I'd like to know if any of the pro's have had problems with this and how they resolve it. Hard to sell someone a system that will say that once every 3 months.

Sometimes if my p5q froze, or went into sleep mode, and I hit the power button, it would lost my OC as well. Don't know why, just would lose it all as you describe.

I've had problems when using my computer without a UPS. Power line inconsistency is bad for overclocking. Do you use a UPS or anything like that...?

isnt this related to the BIOs? maybe a problem with the BIOS battery?
