I paid $500 to OWN it.

How would you feel if Microsoft said;

"You may buy and use this copy of Windows 7, however, you may not create or install any software that isnt created or explicitly approved by Microsoft. Just to make sure you don't, we'll monitor your computer"

I'd imagine most people wouldn't be too happy!
I wouldn't put it past them, really..

There is no limit to what evil greedy people can do, especially when they have money to blow... (Doh!)

Like I said before, there is only one way to fight the evil businesses out there, DON'T BUY THEIR PRODUCTS OR SERVICES, PERIOD!

And that's pretty much the bottom line, really...

The number of people willing to bend over and welcome a new age of dystopian tyranny is shocking. Let those horrific scenarios where privacy is just an interesting dictionary word stay in the fiction section.

No, it's not bending over... it's just that most people don't care. I don't care... honestly couldn't give a monkeys.

So long as I can play my games then they can see me dominate Fifa and GT5 as much as they want.

Just give up. These people think everything is a sign of the apocalypse, assume companies don't have regular people as employees, think Sony didn't apply these changes to combat hackers, think their minuscule self-imposed boycotts will matter, think it's wrong to protect your revenue and ignore the fact that Sony doesn't care if you run your own software as long as it's not through their OS. I'm starting to think it's all book smarts on this board and no common sense.

You know this makes me wonder. Could someone buy PS3s and use the homebrew and other "jailbreaks" as their version of an OS and resell? I mean you could technically claim its a new product like (iirc) X-fi did with their sound cards (same hardware different software to "improve" over previous hardware). Imagine how good Apple TV sales would be if you could buy the XBMC version straight up. I sit here wondering what's so hard for these CEOs and the rest of upper management to understand about giving the customer what they want and getting more money from it? It's not rocket science. It's cheaper than their current methodology. Then again I guess they don't understand that the more you fear and try to prevent something the more you slowly bring it to occurring. I knew nothing about why or how to pirate things until I encountered DRM and other anti-piracy attempts.

Of course: Compared to the rest of us on here the general consumer won't notice or won't care. Funny thing is that most of the people I know or have encountered under the "general consumer" category are the ones more likely to pirate.

I think they can get away with this. To get to the information from your system you would need to connect to PSN which belongs to them. So to not get any info just dont connect to PSN, your system is still yours and still private.

Exactly. Totally fine. If you're freaking out about your "privacy" where you have such private stuff on your PS3, don't get on PSN. Don't get the update. Don't have access to any online play.
