New Hard Drive Recommendations?

Hi everyone I just built a new system for my father in law and we were wondering how to boost our Hard Drive Score in Windows? He currently is running a Western Digital WD3200AAKS:

What would be a good upgrade to get the score at least into the 6.0+ range?

Here is his motherboard just so you know what his SATA capabilities are:

Any suggestions for an upgraded Hard Drive?

I believe you need SSD to boost the windows index score 6+

Well i hate to be the one that brings bad news. But a single machanical drive isn't going to pull 6.0+ score in windows index. A ssd would improve the score in that range. You might possible break 5.9 with some machanical drives in raid.

Next if you are basing all your computer power off a windows index score. Then you are really messing up doing that as a windows index score means nothing in the real world.

I am not basing my whole computer off the Windows score, I just do not have as much knowledge on hard drives when considering performance gain...

Either way I was just trying to get some info on what to do - any SSD recommendations?

Yeah your going to need an SSD if you want it to go any higher, but unless you really need that extra hard drive speed I wouldn't bother.

No. I have two WD RE4 in RAID0. They are about the fastest mach. dives out there.(and Samsung's F4) I still only get 5.9. You'll need SSD.

Crucial C300 looks very nice! So with SSD I assume it is wise to install Windows and necessary programs on the SSD and all other media can be put on a mechanical drive?

You did notice the might right? Care to post your raid-0 benchmarks with those drives. As i had one and i didn't really like it.

The fastest single mechanical drives i used in raid-0 would be the F3's. And if you like to raid them you can pick up 2 for less then 100 bucks when they are on sale. So you will have almost 2 terabytes in raid-0, but i use acronis to back up weekly for that issue. As i grabbed mine from SuperBiz a while back for like $95 shipped for two of them.

Yep, I also installed heavy read games like WoW on my SSD, then I got spoiled so I moved all my steam games over as well. I basically have all of my programs on my two SSD's and my media on my standard drives.

Microsoft office and even photoshop open in ~.5 secs. Office will open as you release the mouse button.
