Upgrading Video Card; What should I get?

Thread Starter
I'm upgrading my HIS Radeon HD 5850.

This is my motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-425-_-Product

Do you guys know what I should upgrade to for a noticeable difference?

I'm not 100% sure on this but from viewing deals on SlickDeals, other than the GTX 460, ATI seems to offer more bang for the money.

Should I get an extra 5850/5870 to crossfire or upgrade to one of the newer generation cards?

I would say go with the 560's. For $500 total, you can have two of them and have some amazing performance and is a better deal than getting a more expensive card like a 570 or 580. Just my opinion though.

What do you do on your pc? Just gaming? What are the rest of your system specs?

CPU: i7 870
HD: 750gb WD Caviar Black
Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-425-_-Product
PSU: Antec Earthwatts 750w
Memory: 12GB RAM (2x4 GB Corsair, 2 x 2 GB Corsair)
GPU: HD 5850
OS: w7

I game in 1080p at the moment but plan to Eyefinity/Surround View (or whatever Nvidia's is called).

And to the person who suggested 2x GTX 560, does my motherboard support SLI? It doesn't specify like it did for Crossfire. Also, isn't a single GPU solution better? Are more games starting to support multiple GPUs?

Reedited: oooo didnt see that your board didnt support sli, if you want to use dual cards corssfire is the only way, But then the pci-e bandwidth is a bit of a limiter.

So single gpu is recommended, gtx580 or HD6950 unlocked. Gtx 580 is priced pretty high up there, so most bang for buck will be the 6950.

You can sli cards, but that requires software modification, look into "sli hack", that is if you want to go sli which tends to scale better than crossfire cards.

Not very optimal going dual cards on a 4x PCIE lane. That leaves AMD Eyefinity-an unlockable 6950 or 6970 will do it just fine unless you expect to max out Metro2033.
