i just got a old dell and there no os on the hard drive so i got windows xp and i put it in the cd drive then i turn it on the dell sigh comes up then it tells me missing bios am i doing something wrong?? please help

As far as i'm aware your not doing anything wrong,bios may be missing or corrupted,try clearing cmos/take the button cell battery out for a couple of minutes then replace and retry,if not try a new battery.otherwise i think you will have to dowmload the bios specific to your model from dell/hp and save to thumdrive or disc and see if you can install this.The bios is onboard on chip though however these or all i can suggest otherwise it may be screwed but i'm no expert.The above methods should be worth a try,good luck.let me know how you get on.
