Is Dx11 worth it? - Page 2

I dont believe the eye candy warrants the huge drop in FPS in any games out right now. Perhaps when games make use of tessellation like Heaven or Stone Giant.
To each his own. When I play a game, I do not keep looking at how much FPS FRAPS is putting out. The only time I will try to do something like that is when it is not running smooth enough to play and I am trying to the settings right. I was running AAA, 4XAF and HIGH settings on Metro 2033 on my HD 6870 and I had no issue with game play and also enjoy the eyecandy.

Yeah your definitely missing out. I would buy the best 6xxx card you can afford.

Don't wait for 7xxx, because that will lead to you waiting till the 8xxx and so on, technology evolves too quickly to wait for next gen.

Yes however from 5>6 series was a real joke as the 5970 is still the "king" for single card setups.

OP: I would wait until the next gen graphics to do an upgrade as that care you have is still a beast. If anything and you really want to upgrade and like dual GPU single die set ups sell your 4870x2 after the 6990/590 comes out but as for what you have already your still good

There is a reason that the performace difference between DX10 and 11 cards is bigger in DX11 games than it is in DX9 or 10. There are performance optimizations in the instruction set.

Except that 5970 is still an overly expensive dual gpu card. You still have to deal with crossfire bs.

This is just a troll thread anyways. I was never even impressed with 4870x2 when it was released and played a few games where that card didn't do too well at 1920x1200. There are far better options on the market now.

My logic is buying a dx11 card basically ensures you can max dx9 games with no problem

Well I respectfully disagree, I had that card for a time and it maxed everything out, Ill admit it was a pain to get the second gpu core running, but once I did and creamed everything I had for it.

I just didnt care how it sounded like a rocket in my HAF lol so I sold it and got a 470 which I traded for a 480 o.O

I think there is a bigger increase of visual quality going from dx10 to 11 than we saw with going from dx9 to dx10. As most have said not many games support dx11, but the ones that do are awesome ie: bc2 and dirt 2, heaven benchmark as well as 3dmark11.

What do you mean by is it worth the fact that it will cut your frames in half? Are you referring to the bump in visuals dx 11 brings? If so, I didn't see any of the dx11 games take nearly that mauch of a hit when switching from a dx10 card to a dx11 one.

At any rate, just the display in Heaven engine shows to me what it is worth. And I am pretty darn sure games are going to start using it more and more. I upgraded recently from GTX 260 SLI to HD 6870 (and soon to HD 6950) and I do not regret that one bit.
nice thinking, i think even i shud do that

whenever i drop a grenade, the kind of smoke that comes, its just real
but i'll try to run it on dx9,10 and 11

what benchmarking tool did you use to get like 20 fps?
and be careful comparing your apples to our oranges.
