SSD RAID 0 or just a single HDD?

Currently I have a WD caviar 320gb and it's starting to feel a bit cramped.
(Not to mention it isn't exactly fast.) So my options are: One 1tb f3 I kinda like this option as it's only 64 bucks. Or i can go with 2 500Gb in raid 0. From what I can tell it would be faster, but I'm not sure about how much faster in general usage. finally I could go with a 64Gb SSD which would be awesome but I lose 130 bucks and am still stuck with no space.
So what do you guys think?

RAID 0 HDD's Samsung F4's or something. Newegg has refurbed 300gb Velociraptors for like $99 if you want something with lower access times. SSD's fill up way too fast for gamers, unless of course you go for a 256gb SSD, but you will still end up having less disk space than you have now. SSDs don't really help gamers in any games other than apparently WoW, but I have no first hand experience with that.

Plus... the price difference you save with going with a faster HDD, you can invest in a better GPU, which will make MUCH more difference to a gamer.

Alright, I think the SSD is a no no.
As for RAID 0 would 2 f4s really be noticeably faster than a 1Tb f3?

This thread kind of sheds some light on various popular HDD's in RAID 0 as well as in RAID 0 and short-stroked (basically creating a smaller partition in order to enable slightly faster access times and better throughput):

http://www.overclock.net/hard-drives...e-results.html

Best case scenerio would be SS, RAID 0 Velociraptor 600's, then probably VRap 150's, since they are single platter, then you can go down the list with the rest of the popular 7200 rpm drives. Large density single platter drives typically perform the best, and produce the least noise (if you care). Samsung F4's, from what I understand, are somewhat short stroked from the factory since they have 666gb platters, but the F4 320 only has 320gb's of space, plus it is one of the newest HDD's on the market. Samsung also has a reputation for reliable, quiet, and fast drives.

It is my opinion, that while SSD's are faster in almost every respect, the price of admission for gamers is simply too high. Most of us like to install more than 2 or 3 games at a time, but with the drive listed below, I had like 30gb free with SC2, TF2, Fallout New Vegas, and LFD2 installed. I have min apps installed, so as you can see, it can evaporate quickly if you play games. I honestly don't need much more than 256gb really though. I had a 300gb Vrap for a long time, and was always happy with the noise, performance, and size.

I comment on a lot of the "choice" threads because I have had a lot of the most current drives available, mostly out of curiosity. I won't bad mouth the SSD movement, although I believe that some users on here and other boards over-hype the user experience... In the end though, they are pricey, and if you play games, it's tough to justify.

Hope this helps!

Well looking from your OP, it looks like you are using your drive for storage(Important files). It would not be advisable to use RAID 0 for this purpose as you would have no redundancies in your system and logically it would follow that your reliability has been halved. I would recommend going with 3 drives and trying out RAID 5/10.

Thanks for the help guys, Raptors just don't seem worth it when I look at price+cap+performance. And I forgot to mention I'm not exactly swimming in money atm so cheaper is better. It looks like for now I might just go buy the 1Tb f3, and either buy another one later or buy an SSD when price per Gb is more reasonable.

And as for importance of files yes it would be a big pain if I lost all my files though not the end of the world.
