Yet another P8P67 Deluxe motherboard 'wont boot' thread

Thread Starter
Sorry in advance -- but I've searched around and my problem doesn't seem consistent with everyone else's. I'm no novice when it comes to builds and suspect that I may just have a bad board, but am looking for any troubleshooting measures I may have overlooked before sending this back to my vendor.

I have an ASUS P8P67 Deluxe and the onboard LED gives me status 2E when powering on. I have yet to even get it to POST'ed, so I've never had the chance to update the BIOS.

I have tried:
  • enabling/disabling the TPU switch
  • enabling/disabling the EPU switch
  • using the BIOS reset button on the back edge of the board
  • using the MemOk! button
  • seating RAM in every slot
  • seating RAM in combinations of 1, 2, and 4 sticks (except the F3-12800CL7D-4GBRH, which I only have 2 of)
  • using 4 different models of RAM, 3 of which are on the QVL list
  • using/not using the CPU fan pins
I have tried most combinations of the above, using the MemOk! button every time.

I get an LED status 22 if no memory is seated at all, and a 2E under all other conditions.

Three kinds of RAM are G.Skill and the last is A-Data. I've tested all three different G.Skill sticks in other builds I have and have successful Memtest's from them. I'm convinced the RAM itself is good. I've also tested the CPU (an i7-2600K) in an ASRock board I have and it runs fine (stress tested for an hour).

The specific types of RAM I have tried are:
  • QVL: A-Data AX3U1600GC4G9-2G
  • QVL: G.Skill F3-12800CL7D-4GBRH
  • QVL: G.Skill F3-10666CL9D-8GBRL
  • Non-QVL: G.Skill F3-12800CL7D-8GBTDD
Any ideas/thoughts?

Is this with the motherboard hooked up outside of the case? My DP67BG refuses to post whenever I have it installed in my Silverstone case but it works (usually) when I breadboard it.

I haven't tried yanking it from the case, but as nothing else is plugged in I can't imagine it'll matter. Remember: this board has never POST'ed under any conditions I've subjected it to.

What's different between your in-case and out-of-case boots?

If you haven't tried to re seat the cpu you can try that.Sometimes the pins don't connect well with the cpu if a speck gets on the cpu or in the socket.Just pull the cpu and inspect the gold dots and check the socket for any foreign matter.

Otherwise try booting with no ram,and try pulling the battery and installing the ram and then replacing it.

The board can short out if it comes in contact with the case and prevent it from booting.

Return it and do not waste your time. My philosophy is that every board should boot off the bat. If it does not then it is broken.

I haven't, but don't intend on trying. The status code 2E is in the range 2B-2E for 'memory initialization' codes according to the manual. If no memory is plugged in, I get 22, basically telling me no memory is plugged in.

See above. The LED on the board is a godsend -- telling me that it's a problem with RAM.

I considered this, but dismissed it again, given the LED on board. Unless you're saying I shouldn't trust it.

I may have to. I've been without a stable system since I traded my i7-950 for an i7-2600K a week and a half ago. Have regretted it since.

My SB works great but I am returning mine this weekend. I do not want to have to deal with ASUS RAMS process since I may end up with a crappy board in the end. I still have a brand new i5-760 that does 4.2GHz.

If everything being used is new, some systematic troubleshooting can save a lot of time and trips back to the store. Just because you don't get an immediate post does not automatically mean the mobo is bad.

Agreed.

But that's not coming from me (O.P.). Any advice or thoughts on my particular issue? questionmark.gif
