Found some speakers, what now?

I'm completely new to home audio, but I found a pair of really old Altec Lansing 85 speakers. I don't know whether they work or not, but I figure they would sound better than my $20 Logitech's, so I could spend a small amount trying that. On the back, it says 4 ohms nominal and 100W maximum. What kind of amp or receiver should I be looking for?

They will definitely sound better than your Logicraps. Those were the recent(I mean like not AL's vintage stuff) models, which are not really that impressive. I'm not trying to disappoint you or anything but if it was under $20, then you got a deal right there.

If you are going to buy/upgrade to better speakers in the future, go with a receiver. If not, this little amp will do just great.

Thanks for the recommendation. That amp seems very nice, especially at that price and the treble/bass knobs. The size is just perfect too.

I probably won't be buying new speakers in the future, unless these Altec's turn out to be defective. Just in case I do, how good of a speaker do you think the amp is capable of supporting?

edit: also, i was wondering how the Lepai compares to the dayton dta-1
