I'm speechless. Does anyone ever read the first post before responding anymore?

Seriously? I'm going to a more professional board.

It's just that your best bet would be two pieces of software, foobar for music and ripping CDs and KMPlayer or Media player Classic for video files, unfortunately those two don't have a library (unless it was added recently to Media Player Classic haven't tried it in a while).

I use the KMplayer, works great, tons of options, did I mention it looks great? After switching back and forth between players for ages, I ran into this about a year ago and have never used anything else.

*edit* download and small review
http://download.cnet.com/The-KMPlaye...-10659939.html

Gonna be hard pressed to find the all in one you seek, perhaps you might want to start him off with something a bit more simple http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VHS Sorry had to =D

*edit*

I read it =) And cannot find a magic simple all in one ripper/burner/player/manager/full format supporter thats intuitive and easy to use. So what you are going to end up with is recommendations to multiple tools for multiple things.

Your asking quite a bit for ONE program, good luck finding one that can perform all of that in one bundle. A dedicated media program (Windows Media Player with appropriate codecs) is the best bet in my opinion. It may not be able to play EVERY file, but if that happens, he can compromise and run that file with a different program.

The big three are it needs to be able to support multiple video and audio formats

It needs to have a library for media files

It needs to be able to rip CD's.

Thanks guys, due rep coming soon.
1) CCCP

2) Under WMP.

3) Handbrake

All that together? You're going to have to pay for it.

Foobar2000. VLC is great for videos because it plays everything, but has no playlist/media library features. Foobar has thousands of plugins for doing anything with it, and has direct out (WASAPI) which improves sound quality.
