GTX 450 & Folding

Thread Starter
hey guys i currently have a 9800gtx+ 1gb, which i use for folding in my HTPC, but it does not have an HDMI port, so when ever i want to watch a movie i have to take the card out and plug into the onboard ati chip, so my question is will the gtx450 be much better at folding, it seams about the same cause my gtx+9800 has 192 processors which is the same on the 450, but the clocks are much higher of course, so will i see an imporvement?

GTX450 will be way better than the 9800GTX+ at folding, expecially when OC'd
post #3 of 16
The 9800GTX+ has 128 Stream processors lol. The GTS450 does have 192 stream processors though.

Btw, theres no such thing as a GTX450, I think you meant GTS 450.

And yes, The GTS450 will be much better at folding than the 9800GTX+

GTS 450's are a very solid choice. Quiet, powerful, a logical step up for you and cost-effective. To answer your ?, yes--higher clocks (specifically shader clocks) will get you significantly better results. O/C'ing the shaders on my 460's got me from ~9k PPD to 11.5k PPD average.

The GTS450's may not be top of the line but I love my pair of them in SLi! Perfect for me, awesome price, good performance for a not-to-hardcore-pc-gamer such as myself, and HDMI audio/video is awesome. Btw in SLi I've been able to play Dead Space 1/2 and CoD BO at 1920x1200 with all highest settings at 60-70fps.

Lately averaged ~8k PPD on my 450, not bad for using roughly ~100 Watts.
