Interesting Information From AMD About 1090T

I see so many people going back and forth about The X6 and their faulty core temps. Seeing as I own a 1090t i decided to contact amd and ask them what the deal was with with the temps, and my reply was quite astonishing.

Paul~

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, I just recently had your email forwarded to my department.

Concerning your question regarding the temperatures with your processor. (1090) the maximum temperature threshold is 62 Celsius which set for the internal die (core) temperature of the chip. The core temperatures have an equational offset to determine temperature which equalizes at about 45 Celsius thus giving you more accurate readings at peak temperatures. The hindrance in this is the sub ambient idle temperature readings you speak of.

The silicon and adhesives used in manufacturing these processors has a peak temperature rating of 97+ Celsius before any form of degradation will take place. The processor also has a thermal shut off safe guard in place that shuts the processor down at 90 Celsius.

The Cpu temperature is read form a sensor embedded within the socket of your motherboard causing about a 7-10 Celsius variance form the actual Cpu temperature, which may be what you are reading about on the net.

You can use an application called AMD overdrive, that will allow you to monitor your temperatures accurately.

As long as your core temperature has not exceeded the high side of the 60 degree mark for extended periods of time you should be ok. 62 degrees holds a generous safety net to begin with.

I hope I was able to answer your questions, If you have any more inquiries don't hesitate to contact us.

Thank You

Hummmm I hope this is true i always wondered how guys on the forums would know what is the actual core temp (wooo its off by 10c) do you live inside the chip?

Then again it could just be amd lying to keep a customer happy and the guys on the forums are correct...we just can't know unless we turn into fairies and live in the chip and put a little thermometer on the wall...do what i do...just run it.

I though the same thing at first but it seems to make perfect sense. Its almost like the correct information was given out at one point and some how got misconstrued along the way. He notates thats there is a temperature variance but with the actual cpu temp and the MB reading, wich could easily turn into, ohh the cores are off the 10c. i always wondered why everyone keeps saying 62c was the cpu temp max cause thats absurdly low for a silicon chip.

Yea this is why i don't always agree with some of the guys yet...I myself have done testing with my old X4 945 C2 125watt chip...people say oh no don't get close to 62c or you will kill your chip, I had that chip at near 76c for the entire night (11hrs) and nothing happened to it, there was no burning smell or anything.

Just to make sure i did a 3dmark vantage cpu benchmark and guess what, it gave out the same scores as before the torture test, BTW that was done with a crappy board and crappy cooling so I don't see what the fuss is all about. Never the less i am happy that i got some clarity on the temperature matter now....INCREASE THE VOLTS..

Everything I've read/heard from AMD says to go with the CPU temp (Tcase) NOT the core temp. People often read the core temp, which in some cases (mine included) is often above the CPU temp. For instance, my core temp often reaches above 72c (!!!) but my CPU temp stays below 55c. W00t.

These chips have failsafes built in to them. Will your chip suffer some degradation if you run past 62c? Possibly in the long run. But your chip will likely NOT suddenly fry and cut out. I doubt you can get anywhere close to the thermal cut off before instability kicks in anywho. Just don't be stupid and try to jack 2v into your chip on air. Bad news bears.
