What's the difference between these two set ups for optimization an SSD?

Thread Starter
I followed the Windows tweak and moved the default location of my user, document, downloads, musics, etc folders over to my HDD in order to conserve room and writes.

However, I noticed there's another guide up in the sticky section:

http://www.overclock.net/ssd/664738-...secondary.html

What's the difference between those two methods and is the second method worth doing if I already have my SSD set up using the first method?

Benefits of each?

Thanks.

Am I reading this correctly or is this a typo?
Did you mean to say that you moved the folders off of the SSD and on to your platter drive?

Thanks for catching that! Yeah, I meant I moved it from my SSD over to my HDD.

What's the first method? Changing to target directory in each user folder?

I don't know what I'm comparing to the link above.

Yeah, it was just to install Windows regularly then move each file location manually.

We'll No

..The Method in the sticky.....moves the entire User folder onto a storage Drive..

where as i preferred the other method (much simpler) and moved only the media folder's, doc's, music, videos. The Benifit is that your APPDATA folder and other items in the user folder which are not large can still benfit from the speed of the ssd.

The AppData and ProgramData are usually pretty small, right? The only reason I'm asking is because I play GRID and DiRT2, where both like to write about 2GB in the ProgramData every time I play because of the replay.pbf file. Then it deletes it when I exit the game.

This pretty much means it's writing 2GB every time I play, right?

My host writes, according to Intel's SSD Toolbox, is up to 643GB now. Is that considered in the high range for a 40GB SSD?

Well, got my SSD today. Installed it, followed both guides. And having issues. Consistently locks up. And about to wipe it again and start from scratch.

What makes you certain it's the SSD causing the problem?
