"The GTS 450, is basically equivalent to a 192 SP GTX 260"

Wrong.

The GTS 450 can barely match a GTS 250/9800GTX/8800GTS (G92s). Read some reviews.

To the OP (amdcpu4life), I was having the same dilemma as you ages ago, wondering whether or not to get a GTS 450 or a GTX 460 (you can search the forum, I made a thread about choosing between a GTX 460 and a GTS 450 (see here). Fact is, the GTS 450 is a bad card for the money now, as it was back when it was released. Get any other card -- for your resolution I'd recommend you get the 768MB GTX 460, as it is more than capable of maxing all games you mentioned at resolutions up to 1080p.

Also your power supply is more than capable of powering a GTX 460. Look at the PSU I'm running in my sig rig, and I'm still able to overclock both my CPU and the GPU without getting any PSU errors. There is a mere 25W difference between the power usage (maximum) between a GTS 450 and a GTX 460 768MB, do not choose the GTS 450 because of lower power usage. I have a friend who upgraded from a 9800GT to a GTS 450 and regrets it, as his 9800GT performed better in a lot of games. Avoid the GTS 450 and either get a GTX 460 or get something like a 6850.

OP, which GTS450 are you talking about? There are the normal ones and the heavy overclocked ones which are basically as fast as a stock 465..

You must be joking...

That GTS 450 would have to be clocked at 2GHZ or more, and with AA/AF enabled it would still have a hard time going anywhere near 768MB GTX 460s performance.

I had one which came clocked to 900 something from gainward. It was beast of a card. 12k vantage gpu score.. and at that time it was paired with my old e6750.. my gtx 285 could only manage 13k gpu score, and my friends 465 14k..

Vantage isn't anywhere close to being a realistic real-world performance indicator... It gave your new card extra 3K points purely for having DirectX11, tesselation and a bunch of new features.

GTS 450 SLI (granted they're both factory overclocked) I max out BFBC2 and Black Ops at 1440x900.

So it takes SLI of those weak cards to pull off what a single 460 can do huh? $20-30 more for a 460, or $100 more for a second 450.....Hmm, that's a tough choice.

The OP said SLI wasn't an option for him. And a GTX 460 768MB can max both those games without breaking a sweat at 1080p as well as, if not better than 2x GTS 450s, while using way less power and costing almost half the price of the pair of them. GTS 450 is still a fail card for anything besides folding, even more so now that the GTX 460s have been getting cheaper and cheaper with the release of the GTX 560.
