I wonder....LN2...Case???

Thread Starter
I wonder if it would be possible to build a LN2 case....it would have to have pass thru connectors for power data etc...I think it could be done.

You would have to assemble it...with mobo and CPU and vid card(s) in case and special LN2 proof cables to the pass thru connectors...then just fill the case with LN2 and seal it forever. Once sealed you wouldn't ever have to add LN2 as it could not sublimate.

Ofc, PSU, HDD's Optical drives would have to be outside the case.
There's a lot wrong with this idea, so I'll point out the biggest dealbreakers.

The components put off heat which would cause the LN2 to boil (not sublimate). Second, many parts of a computer need to be kept warm, including many components on a motherboard.

Also, you can't keep it liquid and cold forever.

If you seal the case hard enough, at some point it'll heat up, leading to a pressure increase to maintain liquid state. And at some point, due to the heat source not being removed, it'll explode, very likely destroying everything nearby.

Nothing even to do with heating up, the boiling point of ln2 is like -196°, unless it can be stored at a colder temperature than that it will boil & evaporate. Even in long term storage, ln2 containers have to be vented. Good storage containers can slow it down, but it still evaporates & expands as it goes from liquid to gas & that basically cannot be stopped.

LN hits your cooling blocks ...and blows them into a thousand pieces of cold shattered goodness as the fluid expands to something like 700x its volume once it turns into gas.

Just do a single stage or cascade cooling system.

So there is no liquid that actually "stays cold"? And as such, there is no way to build an LN2 closed loop system where more LN2 never has to be added?

The liquid nitrogen stays cold, just no way to make it stay liquid forever.
Ln2 closed loop is just not possible.
