you will certainly notice it. but then my c2d wasn't overclocked like my c2q. so yea. i really suggest making the upgrade if its not gonna cost you a fortune to do so.

I went from an overclocked E6600 at 3.6Ghz to this Q6700 overclocked at 3.55Ghz. On BC2, it wasn't a huge improvement. Right now, I'm on XP with a GTX260 core 216 mildly OC'd and I get about 60-70fps solid on the Quad setup. I might have been 45-65fps on my E6600. Nothing major, but an improvement. Unfortunetly I quit playing BC2 a while ago and only played a few minutes to test performance. I can't give you anything more in depth than that.

Now BlackOps, that made a huge difference going to a Quad.

again my E8600 is clocked at 4.5 and fairs well even in GTAIV and bc2.

however my Q9400 despite at only 3.5GHZ does better. their is no substitute for core's.

Clock speed Cannot make up for lack of core's.

nonsense! clock it to the sky!

lol, jk. i am in the same situation. im wondering whether to stick it out with my E8400, go to a C2Q for a bit, or just get a 1155 rig when they are available again... right now im just gonna get my computer running again and see what i can do with some more OCing and maybe a GPU upgrade...

if you arent getting satisfactory game play (runs too slow to be playable in your own, personal opinion) maybe lower some detail settings? if you are set on keeping your settings, then sell off your C2D and see if you can get a used Q9400 or something. the Q9550 is a beast of a quad, and is still a fast CPU today, but that comes with a price. you can get an i5 or a PhII 955 for the same price as a Q9550, even if you find one used and thats a lot of money to put into an old rig. i havent been able to bring myself to even find a used Q9550 and pay $180-200 for a 775 CPU. the Q9400 on the other hand is much cheaper, can be OC'd and will give you those extra threads that newer games really need.

it all depends on what you expect from your games and your computer. if it doesnt play to your satisfaction, then i would look at a 9400, otherwise, save your money for a new build

Snipe a Q9550 off ebay, if you're a good ebay buyer. Run it to 4.0 and it will out-perform AMD.

Not that a Phenom II X4 is not nice, but you have a good board already set up, and clock for clock C2Q is still faster.
