I can't imagine some mode that scales down the monitor to 1200p 1:1 or stretching it to the full width of the monitor looking that great. I remember some of the older Dell models not having a scaler built into it so you only had two options of the full native resolution, or like 800x600.
Want to know what it looks like?

Put 1680x1050 on your current 1920x1200 screen. THAT is exactly what it's gonna look like. Slightly stretched, but nothing too serious. Not too noticiable in most games, unless you really look for it.

It would be horrible for desktop usage though.

Also, the games display the max resolution of 1920x1200 in your options since your current monitor can't do anything higher. With a 1600p monitor, you would see more options.

If I had an eyefinity resolution of 3240x1920, I would see every single official resolution 3240 or less lines of pixels wide and 1920 or less lines of pixels tall in the options.

Say a game that you think doesn't support 1600p? Because pretty much every game does.

If 6060x1200 is supported, 2560x1600 is definitely supported. I have yet to run into a game that doesn't do 6060x1200.

Exactly!

Most games these days (by most I mean like 95%) approve of custom resolutions and unofficial resolutions.

2560x1600 is official and not custom. It should pretty much be available in every single game you play.

I kind of figured it didn't show a 1600p option because I didn't have one connected but you never know. I tried searching for a list of games that had the resolution but couldn't find anything definitive.

I dunno, games like Tropico 3, C&C3, RTS/strategy type builders. I know just about every FPS does so no worries there.

Older games might have some issues though. I have no idea what tropico 3 is..

Fix: Pretty much any game after 2003 or so supports 1600p. At least, from my experience.

Google a bit though.

As almost strictly a multiplayer gamer when i even have time myself... I found that I can't enjoy games on larger panels..

Its just too much real estate to take in at such a close viewing distance and I am all about being competitive. (this mainly applies for fps games)

For me... 22-24 120hz panels are far more enjoyable for gaming even though they are plagued with bleedings issues and can't hold a candle to a good IPS panel... its sorta give and take...

If you feel this display is going to have more Pros than Cons for your, by all means go for it

My main concern really now is that I won't be able to max out BC2 and BF3 when it comes in the juicy glory I play at now. I really don't know my options as far as SLI go really.

I just received my AXP cooler but haven't installed yet because I'm debating this purchase. My SC GTX 570 had been running super hot (96C in Tropico 3). I ended up messing with afterburner settings a little and the max I see it get now is ~75C with the fan at 85%. I don't mind the hair dryer noise because I usually have my Beyer DT770s on at all times. My concern was that once the Arizona summer comes, my 570 may not fair too well on stock cooling.

If I leave it stock I still have to squeeze in the second 570 in with my Xonar sound card.

Here's a pic if you are unfamiliar with the layout on my mobo http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_VppLa7dcUG...P8P67+PRO1.jpg

I'd have to move the Xonar up to the topmost PCI slot leaving little ventilation room for the top 570 card. Which would leave me to believe my only option would be to water cool. And I didn't really want to drop the probably $500+ I'd need to cool both GPUs.

This hurts my brain.

*Attempts to talk you out of it*

My 24" S-PVA panel from christmas 2007 (MSRP 799.99 at the time) is starting to die

(these pics don't really do the problem justice, and those little darker dots are part of the problem not dirt)

@0 Brightness

@32 Brightness (optimal brightness for Monitor accuracy based on test pages)

@100 Brightness

Its been a joy to own but Its only been a little over 3 years and I'm looking at a replacement soon (If it gets any worse). Could you swallow replacement in 3 Years?

Apart from older games I've yet to see one that doesn't support it.

But when I play anything scaled for whatever reason, it's actually not too bad at all. Remember, 2560x1600 is a huge resolution no matter what you compare it to. So the screen has plenty of pixels to use when it scales something.

AFAIK, the U3011 monitor has 3 year warranty-advance exchange out of the box.
