Asus P8P67 Deluxe + 2500k Prime 95 oddness

Thread Starter
I've OCed my 2500k to 5.1ghz (100x51), 1.48 voltage (though that drops to about 1.40 at load, due to LLC or something I guess).

I've run Prime95 Blend for anywhere from 4 to 8 hours, and the first three cores come up with no errors, but at some point in the test, sometimes during the first couple minutes, sometimes after a few hours, the fourth core gets an error and stops working, while the other 3 continue. This has happened consistently the last 4-5 times I've tried prime95.

Should I just add a tiny bit more voltage, or is something else going on? When I back down the OC to 4.7 or 4.8ghz the fourth core makes it through however many hours of testing I feel like running. never had something like this happen with previous cpus

moar volts

You could add more volts to make it stable, however if you are going to use this OC 24/7 I would lower the multi. 1.48 volts is high for a 32 nm chip IMO.

intel rates it as 24/7 safe with up to 1.52v
plus, like I said, volts drop to 1.40 flat during prime95

What is your LLC set at in the bios?

It was always the 4th core that failed for me too. No idea why.

I just followed this guide and put it on High.

ah, I see you have the godly C124 batch I got C123, which has been decent, stable in OS and games at 5.1ghz and around 1.4vcore, but getting it stable in prime has been another beast entirely

Try very high or extreme. It shouldn't drop at all if it's correctly configured.

do you happen to know what the CPU Current Capability option is, or if I should screw with it? The one that can go anywhere from 100% to I think 140%?

and I'll try changing that LLC in a minute

I've left mine at 100%.... didnt really see any difference in trying to stabilize at 4.8... volts were needed.

My chip does the same thing when it needs more voltage... Core 3 errors after a few tests and the rest keep going...

Set your VRM freq to 350
LLC to Ultra High
Phase Control to Extreme

With those settings idle volts are about .005v higher than bios and under load only vdroop of ~ .01v
