folding effects on ssd

Thread Starter
What are the folding effects on a computer with ssd? Will it destroy the ssd? Also what kind of bandwidth are we talking about say over a course of a month. Approximately how much will there be downloaded or uploaded?

Nothing you will ever notice, since the data is sent to the CPU/GPU processed then transferred back.
If you are worried you can keep the checkpoints to a long number or just put it on a HDD if you have one.

You 980x will fold a good amount of units if only doing SMP, if doing bigadv it would be less units but longer times with big points.

I just started folding on the ps3, the hhd light flashes like crazy. Once its done this particular one does it automatically start another?

How exactly can I ensure its not writing on the ssd? If I just install it on the hhd will make the hhd its primarly writting drive?

I can just use the same user name/team number on the computer to build up points together right?

If your on limited Bandwidth like me it adds up quick. Not so much the download of WU's but the Uploads of some Fermi projects and CPU SMP and BigAdv kill's. I only get 7gb/month Download and 2.3gb/month Upload. I can reach 50% of my upload cap in a couple days with my 2 PC's goin. Gotta love Rural USA with only Satellite interwebs

Yes, use the same username, team number and passkey across all your clients.

Set the checkpoints to 15 minutes if you're concerned, it just saves its progress at that point. Not much data to write at all. And it will write to whatever folder you put the client in.

Cover it up with tape or something.
It should keep getting units as long as you have network connection.

It wont be writing to the SSD if you have it installed on the HDD. (with the -local flags)
Don't be so paranoid with your SSD it can take more punishment than you give it credit for.

Yes its best to use the same username and use team number 37726!

Nope, don't need a passkey for the PS3. Don't technically need them for GPUs either, unless you need to differentiate them from the other clients for whatever reason. Our team competition, for instance. But, you do need them for the SMP if you want bonus points, which you do.
