CuCore pretty hot...

So I just got a 2nd 5770 to crossfire with my HIS.
worked fine right out of the box, nothing out of the ordinary.
Suddenly within the last couple hours it started to jump to 70C or higher in games, while the HIS right above it was running around 60C.
Furmark drove it up to 90C in about one minute.
I took off the cooler, removed the insane amount of TIM pre-applied, and put on a normal amount of Shin Etsu.
Same results.
The ASUS card is only about an inch from the bottom of the case, but it still has access to colder air than the HIS as the HIS is sucking air from the back of the ASUS PCB.
Do I have a bad card?
Does ASUS make a terrible cooler?
Is this just the result of a crossfire config?
HIS tops at 73C...that is before I shut down furmark because the ASUS was getting over 94C.
This can't be right...

Nobody has one of these cards?
I read that the removal of the fan shroud might help, so I tried it.
Helped a little, but the card still gets much warmer than I think it should.
If I have to RMA it, I'd like to do it with Newegg, as it seems that ASUS would be more interested in testing it and handing it back if they don't feel it's doing anything wrong. The egg might just give me credit, and I would just turn around and spend a few more bucks on another HIS.
Funny thing is, the idle temps on the HIS are at 36C, and the idle of the ASUS is at 34C, so I know it's getting access to the colder air in the case.

5770's i hear run pretty warm, HiS is known for a cooler running video card i use 2x his 6850's and they peak @ about 70...i would recommend swapping the cards from top to bottom PCIe and test again, also try the asus without the HIS card plugged in

Dont double post/bump your thread that often. It makes you less respectable and will not bring you the info you want without being bashed first

Thanks for the suggestion of switching the cards. It's certainly possible that my 4x slot is somehow causing a voltage discrepancy that is heating up the card or something.
And I bumped it because I had new info on the situation, and didn't want somebody to post the fan shroud fix when it didn't do anything to help.
I also don't think a bump after 9 hours is really that bad considering the fact that I don't much want to RMA the card to ASUS when it seems that it would be more beneficial to do so with Newegg, as I could possibly get my purchase refunded toward credit on an HIS card. Newegg RMA has a smaller window in which to get everything tested and shipped.
Considering that my disrespectful bump yielded a helpful suggestion, I think it worked out for me.

Don't mind TheReceiver. He seems like a douche for not reading your posts and actually seeing you had new information. Not to mention you had 10-11 hours in between posting.

On topic: Do you run the fans at auto or have you tried running them at 100%? I'm sure most 5770s don't even touch 80C on Furmark unless their fans were on auto and/or they had bad case circulation.

Edit: Also use GPU-Z or other gpu monitoring programs to see if the fan on the CuCore is actually running at the correct speed.

OK, got some interesting new info.
1. I found out the fan is actually PULLING hot air off the HS. I guess it's possible that ASUS knows what they are doing, but this seems directly opposite to everything I know about HSF function.
2. Looking at Afterburner, I unlocked the voltage for the ASUS and found it was sitting at 1250v. I looked up the specs, and according to ASUS it should be running at 1125v. Of course GPU-Z says it's at 1.000, so I have no idea what to trust.
If the card was overvolted to begin with, it could explain the excessive heat. I'm not sure why it would have shipped that way, but it's a possible explanation.

FIXED IT!
I have no idea why the ASUS was overvolted to begin with, but bringing it back to it's supposed factory voltage kept it at about 5C higher than the HIS.
