Whats up with my roommates comp? - Page 3

you unplugged the mobo with the psu plugged into the wall o.o uhm. lol

for getting the hs off the cpu, make sure no clips/screws are left connecting it to the mobo, and if it doesn't come loose itself (often older tim will turn to dust) then just twist gently. it will come off.

when the mobo is plugged in are there any lights that come on?

have you tried resetting cmos?

blow the dust out of everything.

thats al the things i can think of

lol no sorry. I had the comp unplugged every time I unplugged something or plugged something into the psu.

For the hs its a clip thats snapped onto two ledges on the mb, thats what I cant get off.

Its the metal clip in the center of the hs

not to be too anal, i knew what you meant, but generally a heat sink is shortened to HSF. Heat Sink Fan.

this the first pic shows a pic of the clip on the hs. second shows a pair of scissors inserted in the clip. you just pull that off the mobo hs clip thingy and the whole thing just pops itself off of the cpu.

clean all the thermal paste off when you have it apart, and reapply with as5 or whatever you have handy.

and there ya go. lol

edit: sorry for poor picture quality. i took it with my phone. plus it was quite cramped in that case.

Might want one of these...better results than paperclips.

http://www.frozencpu.com/psu-165.html
Simple and basic

More elaborate (and more expensive).

What he said. The blinking light is a dead give away. Its dead, no matter what paperclip trick you tried. I have had this same situation before.
