Rebooted, and all was right with the world again. As far as card power... I had bigger fps gains with oc'n the cpu tic per tic than I did with the gpu oc' with a combination working out the best overall.

Moral of the story, bench it, test it, set it, no crashes, forget it.

Call it a fluke but I also noticed that my cards tend to perform better under QSAA rather than MSAA, it had been my understanding that QSAA was 3:5 to MSAA, but I always assumed 3 to 3 was still 3, the only gain being a suedo 5x MSAA comparable to 3x at a 3x processing cost understanding that it could blur some.

Resolution and texture sizes will also have an impact as well, interestingly I found that the performance hit between a 4:3 res and going 1080p was nominal (at least under SLi), bringing up another point, it is worth your time if you only plan to single monitor to SLi the card with another one. Its not 2x performance, but in many cases easily a 85-90% improvement across the board.

Maybe I missed it, but what are you using to OC, and are you into voltages yet?
Nope , no voltage moding

Plot thickens... was this pretty consistent, from boot to boot at the oc on the cpu?

Are you oc'n the fsb or a multiplier or both to get your oc? Forgive me my recent intel overclocking knowledge is pretty piss poor. Your ram timings may need an adjustment or a v bump if its making errors at the new clock...

Ill think about this some more...

It sounds like you had an unstable overclock. You probably pushed one of your components too far w/o bumping voltages.

only fsb . my cpu ocing knowledge are poor as well . so i guess i will stay with stock clocks btw with the old card (9600GT) those cpu clocks were stable and no stuttering appeared

Just off the top of my head, it sounds sorta like the bump in fsb (assuming a stock multiplier and same memory divisor) may have oc'd your ram inadvertently causing some hiccups and checksums to occur, which is going to gum up the works as it were. Probably revisit your oc with a little tweaking of those settings to bring the ram back into line and see were you are at.
