What camera to buy!!

Thread Starter
Hi all,

So currently am in the market to buy a good digital camera.

Presently do not have a budget in mind, as I am assessing all available options. So, can you please advice on a good quality camera that takes crystal clear photos!

Thank you.

Tnx for your suggestions, but those are more like professional ones. Think did not specify in the thread. Well what I am looking for is a good digital camera for when I travel, that takes neat photos.

Any reason you're looking at dslrs rather than something else. You requirements dont necessitate a dslr.

Think about something like an EVIL. (Sony, Olympus, or Panasonic) Smaller for travel.

Technically, not the big SLRs, but the new ones that are much more slimmer. But am more inclined for a good digital camera.

At most I would recommend would be the Canon Rebel T2i, maybe with some kit, 1000$ at most
post #8 of 19
Alright, now that I'm at school I can give you an answer.

A good place to start would be mirrorless/EVIL cameras. The Sony NEX series seems to especially be popular. The downside is that to get that true portability, you're stuck with a pancake prime. The zoom lenses (even the 18-55mm kit lens) are as big as a normal DSLR lens and as a result clash a bit with the portability of the camera.

If you want a point and shoot, the G12 and S95 are good places to look. Not DSLR quality, but better than most P&S.

If you're going to shoot automatic though, just a word to the wise: You'll get better pictures than you would with a standard point & shoot, but you won't get the sort of pictures you normally see on here.

Good camera, but it doesn't really go with his "portable" requirement

They're called EVIL (Electronic Viewfinder, Interchangeable Lens) cameras. They have image sensors of DSLRs, but lack an optical viewfinder and instead have an electronic one.

Well tnx for the advice r31ncarnat3d! Will keep that in mind.

Having done now a bit of further search, what do you think of a 14MegaPixel+ and a Full HD?

I think you mean the EVIL cameras there SLRs (digital or film) are "big" by nature because they have a pentaprism/pentamirror that directs light from the lens to the viewfinder. Optically, you just need so much room for the light to travel. Let alone adding in a film / digital plane.

Do you know / have an idea how much lens you need? (35mm equiv, "times" zoom ie 4x, etc)?

Do you even want to mess with RAW? or just Jpeg?

Doesn't mean much. Most people don't use more than about 8MP unless you're doing editing. Video is up to you. Lens & other features can mean more than MP
