Whats the best upgrade path?

Thread Starter
i am about to acquirea 5870. Im thinking about upgrading but im not sure if i should or not or even which path to go. here are my system specs:

AMD 955 BE @ 3.8 ( Previous owner states it will do 4.0, i cant get it there)

Asus M4A78-E Motherboard

4 GB OCZ Platinum 1066 Low Voltage Ram

My thought was i could get a new ddr 3 motherboard and new ram. Or i could get a new ddr2 motherboard with hopes of getting my CPU overclocked get 4.0ghz or higher. Or i could sell the 955 and get a x6 core CPU. And last but not least, i could do nothing and wait a while.

My gaming res is 1680x1050 on a 22" samsung.

I would recommend upgrading your GPU, the CPU, mobo and ram you have now is fine.

Wait until Bulldozer unless you really need an upgrade. Give you more options and will let you study the price/performance ratio.

Although, perhaps a new monitor?

ops, read the thread rather fast, I thaught you said you had plans on upgrading your GPU
and as suggested wait till bulldozer if you want to upgrade your CPU, it will also give you more time to save.

its ok. I mean i know the 5870 isnt the latest and greatest...but with an OC it still does pretty good i think.

you know i thought about a new monitor. The only problem with that is if i get a bigger monitor, then my resolution will increase which will cause my FPS to decrease. Im actually pretty happy with the 22" still so i will probably keep it for a while.
