1000 watt+ PSU help

Thread Starter
I'm seriously considering getting this Raidmax RX-1000AE for my sigrig. Based on this old review at Toms Hardware (the only GTX 260 TRISLI review I could find).

My GTX's have a LCD attached to each of them (nvidia surround 2D), so I'm assuming that I'm using more than 760watts.

The thing is it's time to upgrade the power supply from my sigrig. I've been lucky enough to not have any major issues with my CoolMax CUG-950bfor the past two years. I'm having to use two MOLEX 6pin adapters to power the 3rd GPU. But I rather have the power coming from its own PCIe power connector.

So what 1000+ watt PSU should I get that is under $200 + can power 3 or more GPU's and can last me 3+ years. Should it be the Raidmax or something else.

Thanks for your help in advance.

I'm still rocking the Corsair HX1000 for my GTX260 Tri-SLI setup with 2D Surround. I've never had a problem with it.

Thing is he needs a minimum 6 6-pins The Raidmax provides that, but I'd stretch a bit and look at an Antec TPQ or Corsair AX series.

Since you were happy with your original Coolmax psu, how about this one?

CUQ-1200B

I use it in my sig rig and can attest that it runs cool, quiet and has no trouble powering my SLI of GTX480's You will not be pulling 700+w out of those GTX260's unless you're going to run furmark or something. I ran a 3-way SLI of GTX260's from a Antec TP New 750w psu, granted for a short time and I didn't run Furmark but they ran and I was able to game with them and run a few 3DMark06 and Vantage runs.

edit: The picture of the supply looks really bad. It does NOT look "battleship gray" for real. I didn't let that stop me when I looked at the pictures and was pleasantly surprised that it was an attractive package, not the matte black that I like but still good-looking.

you do realize that is 760 watts from the wall? so all that he is actually delivering is about 650 watts from his psu. this 850 watt would work fine

You really don't need that much power for three GTX 260s, but if you want 6 PCIe connectors, you'll be looking at the 800+ watt range anyway.
The Corsair HX850, TX950 and NZXT Hale90 850W all have 6 PCIe power connectors. I'm sure there are others but those are off the top of my head.

I don't see you pulling much more than 750 watts FTW.
$200 under budget and there are real nice 850watt Corsairs and Antecs.
$150 and under has a really nice XFX Blacks PSU.

A quality 750 watt would power your system fine.
