Sir the advantage of a mouse over joy sticks is unreal. this cannot be a real thought of comparison to you. I play both 360 and PC. and as an ex semi pro halo 3 player i definitely think 360 gamers go way harder with strats and techniques especially in COD and halo and Rainbow six. Im not trying to start a flame war but a battle in cross systems would be very unfair. I wouldnt make any judgments until you've done both and have been someone in the gaming world.

To be fair, PC fps players have no venue to compete in something as well funded as the MLG events in the US, at least not to my knowledge. There's no way to make a comparison of high level play until MLG PC features the same titles with the top quality players on both platforms represented. That said, take a look at the SC2 play. Some of it is pretty damn impressive.

WoW and SC2 players have and probably always will impress me. Some of that guys are all over the place its insane. There may not be as many venues like MLG. But i think that there are a ton of PC clans out there who do clan matches. and Gamebattles is huge and they offer PC tournaments for money. Not as much payout but 10,000$ certainly isn't chump change. Your point is still valid tho, pc gaming is not as sponsored for whatever reason. Probably because it cost a lot more than a console system that you can keep for 5-10 years. I wish PC stuff would pick up though.

I would assume the general lack of standard hardware is the main concern. Not everyone uses the same setup and that can impact their performance. Someone playing CoD with dual 6970s probably won't have the same experience as someone running a 9800GTX. Granted, I guess the same could apply to the WoW division. As long as you have computers that can run the games well, let them bring their peripherals.

What I assume it all boils down to is sponsorship money. Microsoft and Sony probably pay to promote their consoles. In addition, the sponsors (and if you've watched an event streamed or been to one you know what I'm talking DR. PEPPER HOT POCKETS OLD SPICE about) are insanely aggressive in advertising through MLG. They know the viewer demographic and they're hoping to cash in. That, and I'm fairly sure the popularity of competitive PC fps play peaked with CS.

Controls are what it boils down to for me. I'll always prefer a mouse and keyboard. Maybe we'll see motion controls being introduced into competitive play? It's hard to imagine Microsoft and Sony dumping all of that investment into Kinect and Move only to have them disallowed at the competitive level.

360 gamers kind of have to, since, you know, they're handicapped with a joystick and the aim-assist and all.

@InfernoReaper-thats a great point. depending on the system there would be more lag and higher ping on some systems compared to others. There would most certainly have to be prepurchased/prebuilt regulated systems to make everything fair. which would not be hard to do, just really expensive but depending on the sponsors that wouldnt even matter.

@yvese-most games that use aim assist mostly just recenter the sights of the weapon. and who in competitions uses that? it throws your aim off.

Where's TF2 and CS:S? The real esport games (besides sc2/1)

Chump change in the Starcraft 2 tournaments compared to the monthly GSL tournaments. Something like an $86k first prize in Korea, hopefully they get day9 or tastosis to cast some of the SC2 games. I predict the S level GSL players will win the MLG tournament if they bother to do it at all.

For the record, the prize pool dropped dramatically for the GSL this year as they moved away from open tournaments. Code S is an elite group of 32 guys that is incredibly difficult to be apart of...for the rest of the world, MLG is is offering a fantastic opportunity...with the National Championship being unreal.
