help with ocing e8400 to 4GHz

Thread Starter
Hi!!
currently i have my e8400 set to 3.61 GHz (400fsb x9) at 1.225 V and everything is has been working fine for 2 months or so..
now i wanted to oc it to 4GHz.. (450fsb x9) (i tried 1.25 and 1.3 V) but when i want to save the changes in bios when it reboots i get 1 long + 3 short beeps and in wont boot (my screen stays in standby, doesnt turn on)
so too boot it i have to clear the bios and do it again to 3.61GHz.
so does someone know what could be the problem?

i used to get that same issue (1+3 beeps, no picture) with my E6600 + P5B. I had to increase my FSB and NB voltage. Im unfamiliar with your Mobo though. I couldn't get passed 3.2Ghz, but after setting those and adjusting my vcore, i was able to get to 3.6Ghz where i became thermally limited.

So try some other voltage settings if you haven't.

Lower your CPU multiple, then try for 450 again. Say, 8x450=3.6.

If you get the same error code, you have a RAM or mobo OC failure, not CPU, and we'll need to look at RAM multiple and/or chipset voltages. If it boots and runs fine, you need to add more VCore.

Do that and we can go from there.
