New build - replacing the "Ex Girlfriend"

Thread Starter
UPDATE: PROBLEMS ON THE NEW BUILD - CAN"T GET INTO BIOS!

GO TO PAGE 2, POST 15 FOR ALL DETAILS

THKS

Its like a having a child. You just have to share it with others....

The last batch of the parts should be delivered today! (snow storm sucks)
The parts have been "reviewed and approved" in another thread.

My only concern is properly hooking up all the cables to the motherboard. Are there any good tutorials (video or pictures) for ASRock 870 EXTREME3 motherboard??

Question: (not sure about the technical name but) are the "spacers" that are installed between the motherboard and case included with the moteherboard or I have to get these separately???

Tips and tricks are welcome....... I relay like to learn on other people's mistakes poke.gif

Not sure about the tutorials but generally the motherboard spacers come with the case that you are buying

Are you talking about motherboard headers to the front panel? That's the hardest part. But you can just read the case's manual to find that out. Everything else is super easy.

Motherboard stand offs (those "spacers" you speak of) come with the case.

Don't waste your money on an anti-static wrist wrap, just touch an unpainted part of the case occasionally. If the inside of the case is painted, plug in the powersupply and touch that occasionally.

Any more questions, feel free to ask.

Yes, I hope that motherboard instructions explain it well.

Yes, the standoffs - tahnks. HMMMM I got the case (Thermaltake V Series V6 BlackX Edition) but didn't see standoffs. I might have to take a closer look. There might be a bag with hardware/accessories????

When powering up for the first time, are there any BIOS setting that have to be properly set up? (more tweaking will be required after OS is installed)

My CPU is black edition so there is a possiblity of unlocking additional cores. Just to confirm - unlocking cores can be done later. It doesn't have to be done during the initial boot up. Correct???

Thanks.

Get your OS set up and make sure everything is working (drivers up to date) before doing any tweaking.

I usually go into the BIOS and turn off splash logos and whatnot, but it's fine to do that later, just get your OS and drivers installed smile.gif

Standoffs will come in a little bag with the case, and it's fairly simple to see which cables go where, or just read the manual that came with the mobo, but I think you're past that bit?

Also, parts list and pics, please biggrin.gif
