Verizon Calls to Offer Me Upgrade? - Page 2

Unless he's pushing you to change your plan (i.e. get rid of some cheaper deal you've grandfathered in for something more beneficial for them) I'd say why not, but I'd suggest the Fascinate. If you run vanilla android, and not ROMs, look at the Droid X too. The bionic looks nice, but will also have a locked bootloader, which doesn't interest me at all.

Case in point.

My friend called about an upgrade a month before his contract expired. He wanted a deal on the same network he'd seen online (HTC Desire for free, £25pm, minutes and messages) they said the cheapest they could give him was £35pm and he had to pay £50 for the phone.

I told him to wait until it expired. He did and got the deal he wanted, plus £5pm off his bill.

Always speak to retentions.
I think Europe has a much better mobile system. Things tend to get more expensive here if you end your contract and start a new one, if they up the pricing for data/SMS, etc. I would just check both options and go with whatever would be cheaper. If you're talking about subsidized prices for phones, they're the same for new customers and renewing customers with eligible upgrade.

I was with Verizon for 7+ years and never had a call and I've been with T-Mobile for 3+ years and not a call. Maybe it was something that I opted out for? I'm not sure lol...but I usually get a new phone anyways before my 2 year contract :\\

As for a phone recommendation, I'd wait to see for the latest new phones from Motorola or HTC. Unless money is a factor, I'd go with the Incredible or iPhone.

Yeah what someone else said. They are just trying to keep you, no catch.

If you plan on sticking with Verizon for a while, why not?
My sister works for Verizon and she did mention the NE2 program will be getting canned. Something about Apple's terms of having the iPhone on their network.

She also said the best Droid right now is the Droid 2. Don't know if she's just messing with me so I don't change my phone, but that's what she said.

Just a few comments/updates here..

When I spoke to the rep, he offered me the Incredible for $99.99 with a $50 MIR (so $50 total for the phone).

To me that seems like new contract rates, not NE2 rates, so why are they trying so hard right now, offering me so much?

As far as I know, when you use NE2 online, all you get is $50 flat off your purchase price, which if it is not with a contract extension, will still be like $500 for a Droid. If that is the case, this sounds pretty hard to pass up?

Edit:

About my particular needs in a phone; I have not rooted my 1st gen Moto Droid but I am not opposed to rooting my new phone if it makes a significant difference. I just want the best phone out for my money, if they are offering me a deal I should take advantage I think. I feel like if I wait and use my NE2 when it actually comes up, I will just get $50 off and then the new dual core phones will still be $500+ with this deal.

So if anyone has more opinions/details about the "best" Droid platformed phone right now I'd like to hear it Also, handing out some +rep now for people who have already been quite helpful, thanks!

They're only just allowed UK customers to buy out of their contracts 6, 12, and 18 months in for a cancellation fee. Imho, seeing as they tell you a phone is free you should be able to cancel without fees, but that's life.

Here I'm on £25pm, 900 minutes, unlimited texts and unlimited data. I pay £6pm for insurance (with a £15 excess fixed fee) so my bill is £31pm and never goes up unless I send a few picture messages or call non-free numbers (premium numbers are charged, all mobiles and landlines, regardless of network, are free!)

A lot of Americans slam the EU but it often comes in very handy with it's regulations.

I read/heard that they are doing away with NE2, luckily for me we have two of those running on this account and I am only using one of them for this "deal" aparently, unless maybe it is eating both? I need to speak with the rep again about what is going on overall with the account if I take this deal.

Still debating between what phone I would like to pitch to the rep to see what I can get. I was doing a comparison between the Droid X, Incredible, Fascinate, and Droid 2, and it looks like the Droid X bests those phones in almost every single category, but that it does come with a heftier price tag. Any comments to that end?

O2 in the uk called me 2 months before my contract was up and offered me a free upgrade and 10% off my current tarrif.

the kick was instead of a 12 month contract they wanted to lock me into an 18 month contract with a "free tv and x360" as i didnt need or want either i just let my contract end and went PAYG.. as i hardly use the phone anyways...
