Work it right and you can get plenty of freebies. My friend hada really bad experience on Orange so when his contract was up he just left it. A week after it expired a rep called him and offered him a rather desirable contract and new phone. My mate was more interested in the phones he could get really so he said he'd try a phone for a couple of weeks and if he liked it he'd start a contract. So they agreed that unless the phone was returned in two weeks he'd get billed accordingly.

However, my friend never actually activated the SIM or started the contract. 6 months later I reminded him about it and he'd totally forgotten about the whole thing. He checked his bank and he'd never been charged by Orange and they didn't send him any letters. He still had the phone packed away in a drawer somewhere. He ended up selling the phone and making back a load of money he reckoned he'd been scammed. Not bad!

I agree, I had been looking at these 3 for comparisons/reviews. I think I am going to see what kind of deal I can get offered on the X when I speak with them today. Hoping to upgrade now then upgrade my other line to the Bionic down the road when it's debugged and actually available to stock (Hello backstock that always comes with next gen phones x.x).

Just an FYI, the droid X refurbished is only $99. It comes with all accessories, and has the same warranty as new phones. $49 for the facinate.

I have seen a few horror stories on the Verizon site reviews about the refurbs..I know that they do have a good warranty but I also don't want to have a repeat of some of the reviews (people sending theirs back over and over and being sent back more broken ones), but I plan to see if I can get access to those deals in this situation (being a contract renewal and NE2, I believe).

here is the really cool thing about verizon, they have a "lemon clause". Meaning if you send a phone back for the same problem(i did years ago for my samsung omnia), you are entitled to swap that phone for a phone of equal or lesser value. meaning, even if you bought a $49 facinate(retail price $549), and in 9 months had sent it in 4 times for the same problem, you can get any phone that retails for $549. on your 5th callin for a RMA you can get a new phone.

That is quite interesting actually..so basically you are double covered, in that they have to keep sending you replacements, and eventually they have to pony up a new phone..makes the Refurb a bit more appealing.

The thing that worries me most is that I see reviews on Refurbs on their website that say the phone was just slow compared to the floor models they tried, and that the company would not honor a replacement on that basis..I know that being an OCN member, that is something I would notice and hate (paying a lot and using my upgrade for a slow phone that should be fast) so I have some reservations..

lol i have returned a handful of phones and verizon has never told me no. my omnia was returned a total of 5 times before i took the free phone for being slow. i would press the call button and it would take 5-10 secs to bring up. then i would start dialing and it would input a number every 15+ seconds. My omina, 5 times, my wifes blackberry 3 times, my sons phones 3 times, and my facinate once so far.

They actually offered me the X for $99.99 brand new..it is an appealing offer because once I Ebay my Moto Droid A855 (first gen), I should recoup that price + a bit more..Verizon seems to be making moves trying to keep customers these days o.0
